The short version of the engineer visit was a line fault was found and repaired and the line should be back to speed within 24 hours, whereas in reality a fault may have been found and fixed but the line definitely didn’t get back up to speed. Fast forward three weeks of me being busy and I decided to call Sky again who again ran through the usual steps before booking an engineer visit. I spent a few hours surfing using a 3G USB modem, which at the best of times can be rather slow (usually only 2mbps!

I got a voicemail from a lady at Sky today, she said she had heard back from the engineer that visited on Saturday and said she was aware that the issue is resolved. Instantly I thought to myself “if only”, time to turn on the rant tags! I may as well call Sky and downgrade to the regular fibre package, currently I’m receiving almost exactly the maximum speed for the lower package, what is advertised as an 80/20 package and estimated to be lower at 60/20 is actually performing at 40/7.[/Rant].

This blog fell badly into neglect, the last proper post was 14 months ago, I felt that since my Mum has set such a good example keeping her blog regularly updated I should follow the good example! I recently rented a second dedicated server and this time ran with nginx. I’ve been amazed at how quick it is compared to my old Apache2 setup, setting up vhosts was just as easy as Apache and getting my 10 sites (personal friends) online was a quick and relatively pain free process!
