Film, technology, fun. Friday, June 20, 2003. I walked out of a screening of Hulk. Last night, surrounded by comic book geeks. One of them is a friend of mine, the owner of a local comic shop, and many of his employees were in attendance. Reactions were mixed. Some liked it a lot, but others were disappointed. "Too much cheesy dialogue." "Weird-ass direction." "Bad acting.". Someone obviously laced their popcorn with hallucinogens, because I don't think they saw the same movie I saw. Two things: First, a...

Film, technology, fun. Monday, July 14, 2003. A weekend of watching. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I'm sure that critics worldwide were tempted to quote Macbeth. Ironically, Disney was responsible for the better of this weekend's two adventure movies. Pirates of the Carribean. Was everything an adventure film should be, including a good bit of comic relief that, by all rights, should have been odious, but miraculously was not. By golly, Adam Sandler can act! Why exactly MTV felt the need to create t...

Film, technology, fun. Monday, April 28, 2003. Will the real Jennifer Aniston please stand up? Is the kind of movie that doesn't get made often enough, yet given the crap that fills the shelves of the video rental stores, it's amazing that these films get made at all. The actress we know as Jennifer Aniston, who must be an entirely separate yet physically identical person to the Jennifer Aniston on Friends. And in the more thoughtful moments of Raising Arizona. Sunday, April 27, 2003. Gotta have it fresh...

Film, technology, fun. Sunday, August 17, 2003. OK, yes, I've been slacking off on the video log. Lots of other projects intrude, including the latest issue of B-Movies Quarterly. Wasn't nearly as bad as I feared it might be. It's not half as inventive or shocking as Bride of Chucky. And Scott answered, "Heroin rehab.". Film, technology, fun. Monday, October 27, 2003. Necronomicon is the second of two conventions we attend each year, unless you count film festivals like B-Fest as conventions, which I don't. Held locally in a Tampa hotel about an hour from St. Pete, it's a much more relaxed affair than Dragon*Con, but it still manages to attract enough people that the hotel parking lot overflows and the panels, no matter how obscure the topic, are usually well-attended. For the screen, and artist/author Gahan Wilson.
