Sink my muddy feet. Cool and gentle rain tickling my face and arms, giving me chill bumps to refresh my spirit and remind me I am alive. Excited droplets of rain dancing on thick banana leaves. Flower petals laden, drooping shy in the storm and then… standing tall again as the rains slowly end. The musty sweet scent of wet ground radiating with new life. A night sky coming alive as it is ignited by lightning strikes. Again and again. Tropical rain pulsating against our rusty tin roof, lulling me to sleep.

Friday, December 30, 2011. Project of the day: Tshirt Scarves (as promised! Today I made two super easy scarves from a couple of tshirts that were less than flattering on me. The first one is just a 6" strip cut from the bottom of an old tshirt (minus the hem) and stretched out so the edges curl. I'd suggest using at least a size large women's shirt. Doubled up or left long, it's a cute addition to an otherwise drab outfit:. The other one was slightly more time consuming but totally cute!

Except for hanging some pictures and curtain rods, and setting up the last of the VCR's, DVD's, Wii's and all the other electronic junk that I'm no good with, we are officially apartment dwellers. DH says we're "scrubs" now, whatever that means : ). By the end of our 8 months here, we may just have a huge "moving in" sale and sell half of what's been in storage. All in all, we're looking forward to a VERY happy new year, and hope you are, too!

Tuesday, January 3, 2012. We "undecorated" the house today :( It looks very empty and sterile. I love Christmas. I love the lights, the scents, the warmth, the colors, the feeling I get when the tree is lit and it seems like every wall in the house glows, too. But it was time. Thursday, May 8, 2008. Is what my daughter asked me out of the blue today as we stood in the Armory parking lot and helped to welcome the 218th Infantry Brigade back to Rock Hill from Afghanistan. I didn't know she knew that word. I didn't know she knew in what context it should be used. So as we listened to Toby Keith sing "American Soldier", reading the sentiments on the banners, waiting for the soldiers to come in, I could hardly hold my emotions in. Why? I didn't KNOW anyone!
