For Clarity: Holiness
http://clearnesscommittee.blogspot.com/2009/02/holiness.html
Friday, February 20, 2009. In Leviticus 11, God is giving instructions for clean and unclean food. In verse 44, God sums everything up."consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am holy.". He was showing them the necessary steps to prepare themselves. Because it is the path to holiness, a necessary path to take. Why should I become holy? Because my Father is and he wants me to be more like him. Nicely written John. thanks for the reminder. February 21, 2009 at 9:09 PM. March 8, 2009 at 11:44 AM.

For Clarity: Identity Crisis
http://clearnesscommittee.blogspot.com/2009/04/identity-crisis.html
Friday, April 3, 2009. Too often, we spend so much time focused on doing the right thing or not doing the wrong thing. I'm not saying it isn't valuable to consider this. I think that we constantly need to evaluate our actions and consider our motives. It seems, though, that it's easy to get bogged down in a list of do's and don'ts and forget one of the most basic things. Hey man, right on! April 4, 2009 at 5:54 PM. For Clarity: November 2008
http://clearnesscommittee.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 10, 2008. You can't see it, but I had this whole big piece about the election and what I think and how it related to Christians and church. You'll have to trust me that it was an impressive piece of work. Just imagine all of the best things you've read and pretend I wrote those in there. I deleted the whole thing because it degenerated into nonsense. Put another way, how could a person recognize a Christian? If not, why wouldn't we? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friday, October 31, 2008. I, by comparison, appear lukewarm and pliable. How can I be convinced that I'm right about what I believe and someone whose beliefs are the polar opposite of mine appears to be easily more committed than I am? Is the truth in me? Why do I say that? Is it because it's true or because it's convenient to believe? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Thoughts of a student pastor. Cost of Discipleship by Deitrich Bonhoeffer.

For Clarity: July 2009
http://clearnesscommittee.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 26, 2009. If I were to go to a church today and heard a sermon about some supernatural occurrence, I almost wouldn't blink. Think about the things we believe almost without question. Jesus walked across the water, defying the laws of gravity? Jesus made the dead come back to life? Sure, why not. God divided the waters of the Red Sea and held a pursuing army at bay long enough for several hundred thousand people to walk across? I don't see why not. As if I doubt that. Friday, July 17, 2009.

For Clarity: April 2007
http://clearnesscommittee.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 30, 2007. So here is a question. And I ask this without knowing for sure how I feel about it. Is there such a thing as spiritual neutrality? I have essentially said publicly that no there isn't. I am pretty much on record as taking the position that everything we say and do either draws us toward God or pushes us away from Him. But I am wondering if this is a valid position. Is this an oversimplification or does this reflect the reality? Any thoughts on this? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, March 15, 2009. More to the point, why isn't it happening around me? I think it's because I like the idea. Of a Christian community. Once it gets past the concept, it gets a little rough around the edges. That's because, if we tell the truth, we're all a little rough around the edges. It takes work to smooth those rough edges out. Sometimes we'll put in the work to smooth them out and while we're working those edges cut us a little. It's time to take the lid off. Will it make a mess?
