Partial list of current and past projects. Several projects are currently funded to investigate the hypothesis that living systems organize to maximize entropy production. Hydrodynamic and Constituent Transport Modeling. Development of FVCOM for the Plum Island Ecosystems LTER project (PIE-LTER). Examines how data assimilation techniques are used to improve model performance or to estimate processes not directly measured (i.e., inverse techniques).

Current theories in non-equilibrium thermodynamics support the conjecture that systems organize to maximize entropy production (MEP). I am currently exploring whether MEP can be used to describe microbial biogeochemistry using laboratory microcosms as experimental systems.
