Egans in Johannesburg

Elder Bob and Sister Martha Egan on an elephant-back safari in South Africa. Thursday, August 13, 2015. National Women's Day, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and God's Window. Sitting at the bank of a large "pothole" at Bourke's Luck Potholes on the way home from our Rhino Rescue Safari. Then we met up and had our final dinner, again out in the bush! Lady Di's and Sean's cooking has been fabulous, every meal! After breakfast, we took the 7-hour scenic route home and visited some amazing sights in the Drakensburg...

Egans in Johannesburg: February 2015

Elder Bob and Sister Martha Egan in traditional African attire on African Heritage Day in Soweto. Sunday, February 22, 2015. It’s Sunday, Feb. 22. In Joburg and a very hot and beautiful summer day, quite surprising since yesterday was overcast and cool, almost like fall. What a week this has been! Our pin board with 8x10's of all 10 kids and families. When we arrived at the office Wednesday afternoon, Jessie, the Area Physical Facilities Manager, told us he had a desk for Martha and would be moving it in...

Africa Southeast Area Office - where we work Monday-Friday. We haven't posted much about what we do day-in and day-out during the work week, mainly because Bob's job is highly sensitive and Martha's keeps changing. Hosting VIPs (set up, program, communication, etc.). Using outlook diary for Sean and adding contacts, etc. Preparing folders for VIPs. We haven't sai...

Elder Bob and Sister Martha Egan in traditional African attire on African Heritage Day in Soweto. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Six Months in South Africa. Today marks the 6-month anniversary of our mission in South Africa, so our 18-month commitment is 1/3 complete! We started on February 2, 2015 and are scheduled to finish on or about August 2, 2016. It has gone by so fast, and we are sure the next year will whizz by even faster! Here are some scenes taken on our way to and from Church in Soweto today:.

Kimble Family: January 2015

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 10. More Time in D.C. It seems like we've been several times in our first year here, but there are so many landmarks still to see. We've no choice but to come back again in a few weeks. A Must See Maritime Museum. After some lunch, we decided to do some more exploring and discovered Fort Monroe, a recently decommissioned base (with a moat! Where Robert E. Lee served as a young officer and engineer and where Jefferson Davis would later be held captive but never be tried for his role ...

Kimble Family: February 2015

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 26. Jack Frost has been hanging around the Center of the Universe. Hyrum is up to 5 snow days out of the last 8 and I've had a couple myself. This time it was Tara's turn to play in the snow and my turn to cuddle with a cute girl on the couch. Tara helped the boys build a snow fort (Translation: The boys watched Tara make a snow fort). Hyrum cleaned off the car. Adorable. Warm. Relaxed. Hyrum died on what's left of our last snowman. Why are you looking at me, Dad? Hyrum got a bad idea.

Kimble Family: November 2014

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 23. It was a fun visit, though a little frigid early on. The demonstration of the revolution-era rifle at Yorktown is still one of my favorite things. The boys' like the three replicated ships at Jamestown best. And Allie most enjoyed anything that was inside. The norm was to send your kids sailing at 10 years old and collect their pay. So we thought we'd let the boys practice a bit. Mom and Dad are going to need that retirement. Chillin' with G.W. Saturday, November 22. It has been abou...

Kimble Family: June 2014

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30. A Spontaneous Intro to Night Hiking. Our latest outdoor adventure, already three weeks behind us, was a camping trip to Sky Meadows in Northern Virginia. I reserved a campsite in advance, because that's the only way you'll ever get one in Virginia, and we were all excited to go. We set out to do just that with some vigor. I grabbed our tent, a sleeping bag, and the duffel bag we were using in lieu of a proper hiking pack and started out ahead. If I could move quickly, I might be ...Brisk...

Kimble Family: Luray Caverns

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2015/07/luray-caverns.html

Thursday, July 30. Tara and Allie had a good time. Hyrum kept confirming that dragons, if real at all, didn't live there anymore. I'm not convinced that Camden ever realized he was in a cave at all. This was "the Cathedral" where the Stalacpipe Organ played "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" using the rock formations around the room. Way cool- and a German song, by the way. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). New York and Pennsylvania. A Small Town 4th. Testimony of my Own. I Lost My Marbles.

Kimble Family: October 2014

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 26. We headed to a nearby pumpkin patch this weekend to let the boys pick their own pumpkins. They thought it was the greatest way to pay way too much for a pumpkin that anyone could conceive. They're probably right. Thursday, October 23. Over the River and Through the Woods. We rode on a plane to go see Grandma. Inside the boys started to appreciate their environment. Camden especially liked watching the planes taking off, landing, boarding and getting fueled. We blessed Allie in our old...

Kimble Family: May 2015

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30. A year ago we had a spontaneous introduction to night hiking when our tent broke at a campsite that was a mile or so from the parking lot where we left our car. We were defeated that night but still astonished at the beauty of one of Virginia's incredible state parks. Allie talked and giggled in her pack- she loves that thing (and she's a chatterbox). One of the deer he found. Camping at Sky Meadows. Camden staying where it is safe. After we got the tent set up, Hyrum told Tara that he ...

Kimble Family: September 2014

http://kimblefamily.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 28. This summer we got passes to King's Dominion, an amusement park just a few minutes from Ashland. We went often- sometimes several times in a week- and always had a great time. Saturday we decided to go again for what may be our last time this season. After a summer of pregnancy, Tara finally got to go on the rides! Gettin' a little crazy on Lucy's Tugboat. The Halloween decorations were out. Also, there was a giant spider on the lawn. Hyrum took Mommy on his favorite ride. After wal...

Merry Christmas : "Festive Season" Greetings from Africa 2015

http://eganchristmas2015.blogspot.com/2015/12/christmas-greetings-from-africa-2015.html

Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Festive Season" Greetings from Africa 2015. Dear Family and Friends,. We feel so blessed to number you among those we hold most dear this special time of year! Christmas is different in Africa, to say the least. The decorations are much more low key, and it's the middle of summer here! As we commemorate once again the nativity of our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ, may we each include in our celebration a prayer for peace on earth and good will to all mankind, and may we ea...

October 30, 2016. You want to go out? The regular thudding of a tail against the wooden floorboards in the hall told him that Dog was getting impatient. Jack padded quickly down the stairs and climbed into his leather working boots, shrugged on a warm jacket and grabbed a short leather leash, expecting a quick walk in the dark and then back to a warm bed. Dog pulled hard as they approached the darkened house. He could smell Frank’s two border collies. They were sheepdogs and lived in the barn, no...A min...
