Capital Commentary: November 2008

http://elenaseesdc.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2008. Read All About It. The Newseum, like its name suggests, is a museum dedicated entirely to telling the history of the news and the media. Located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue (there is a beautiful view of the historic street from the top floor of the building) and Sixth Street, the Newseum is by far my favorite museum in Washington, D.C. Kennedy's notes from the first televised presidential debate. A 4D theater with moving chairs and squirting water. The movie ...

Capital Commentary: August 2008

http://elenaseesdc.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 29, 2008. Next, a group of us walked to the Lincoln Memorial and later tried to familiarize ourselves with the metro system. Already, I realize how much I enjoy living in a big city. I love having breweries, pizzerias, clothes stores, and pharmacies right at my doorstep. I love people watching and reading the newspaper on long metro trips. I love the sound of cars and sirens outside my window at night. 4 Everyone dresses up. I have never seen so many people in business suits in my life.

Capital Commentary: Nightmare on M Street

http://elenaseesdc.blogspot.com/2008/11/nightmare-on-m-street.html

Sunday, November 2, 2008. Nightmare on M Street. For Halloween, Washington, D.C. donned a mask and transformed itself from professional capital to party city. The metro, usually full of government workers in business attire, was overrun by men in foam beer suits and women in corsets. Witches, devils, penguins, and grim reapers replaced lawyers and politicians. Newspapers, the choice reading material d. A Few Costume Trends:. Hey, I have one of you in my pocket! A man shouting from his car. President....

Capital Commentary: October 2008

http://elenaseesdc.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 26, 2008. Alexandria: Torpedos, Cloggers, and Ghosts. After a short trolley ride down King Street, my friends and I arrived in Old Town Alexandria. Situated along the Potomac riverfront, this colonial town still retains its 18th century charm. I half-expected to see George Washington and Robert E. Lee, two famous Americans to call Alexandria home, chatting in one of the town's taverns or perusing through one of the many antique shops that line the quaint brick streets. Our first stop in.

Capital Commentary: George Washington: Man and Mansion

http://elenaseesdc.blogspot.com/2008/11/george-washington-man-and-mansion.html

Sunday, November 9, 2008. George Washington: Man and Mansion. Alongside the Potomac River, George and Martha Washington lived happily from their marriage in 1759 until Washington's death in 1799. I had no idea that men did the decorating in Washington's time. I wonder when that went out of style. November 13, 2008 at 9:39 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). La Petite Exploratrice: Party at Jeanette's

http://lapetiteexploratrice.blogspot.com/2009/03/party-at-jeanettes.html

Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Last weekend I went to a party at Jeanette's place. Jeanette is from Nova Scotia, and she is a. At the university. It is a teaching job, and she teaches one of my classes along with a French professor (of course I haven't had that class for a month and half due to the strike, but that's another story). The party was delightful; great people and a great atmosphere made for a fun time had by all. Here I am with our lovely hostess, Jeanette. Sarah (England), and Sam. Spain), and me.

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs: December 2007

http://spoonfuloflightningbugs.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs. Monday, December 31, 2007. I met an old man who tied a string around his johnson during church services to keep from pissing himself. He wore thick glasses and short-sleeved button down shirts. His jeans made his ass bubble out behind him. I think he wanted to have sex with me. Maybe. Anyway so she wouldn’t be embarrassed. I read one of her short stories. It was about the Ku Klux Klan. She said it was real. I write truth in pretty boxes and call it make believe. Teach me y...

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs: To Make Closer the Sound of One-Plus-One

http://spoonfuloflightningbugs.blogspot.com/2009/01/to-make-closer-sound-of-one-plus-one.html

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs. Friday, January 9, 2009. To Make Closer the Sound of One-Plus-One. I wanted you to be there too. In the dark winter streets with the candles in the windows and the ice on the lamps and the still still still of the empty stones. We were shooting jars of beans and crouching low against the wind and my child-fingers left cold marks on your arm. We filled our cups of tea too full and laughed in side-long ways with drowning eyes, and I hoped it was not enough for you. Bryan Coffelt...

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs: April 2008

http://spoonfuloflightningbugs.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Spoonful of Lightning Bugs. Wednesday, April 16, 2008. I am terribly behind. I do, however, plan to finish my thirty days worth of National Poetry Writing Month poems. I simply won't be finishing them in April. It's been very busy. Good things have been happening. Friday, April 4, 2008. NaPoWriMo - Day 3. How Sarah Was Before and After. Move these feet in something like closeness. Sarah could do this. Before she was Suzanne she was Sarah, and she remembered the softness of her grandmother’s arm. Store th...

La Petite Exploratrice: March 2009

http://lapetiteexploratrice.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Who are striking and have set up the blockades in the halls. And from what I hear they do it almost every year. At this point I'm not going to worry about it. There's nothing I can do, so as long as I get the credits I need, I'll be happy. And I have to admit that sleeping in every day is pretty damn nice. Last weekend I went to a party at Jeanette's place. Jeanette is from Nova Scotia, and she is a. Here I am with our lovely hostess, Jeanette. Sarah (England), and Sam. Last we...

La Petite Exploratrice: January 2009

http://lapetiteexploratrice.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 29, 2009. This sign says, "Sarko, the people will have your skin.". Sarko steals from the poor to give to the rich.". It should be even more interesting when the university students start striking Monday and close the school. I'm not sure how that will go. I'll keep you posted. Sunday, January 25, 2009. Oh, and Have I Mentioned. How disturbing the Orangina ads are? I Have A Pigeon Hole! I'm Really Sorry I Missed This. On December 10, there was a signing of the book. For a couple of days...
