A free-spirited California native writing about interesting people, places and things. A tiny shop located on historic route 66 is arguably one of the best donut establishments, like, ever. Donut Man, in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendora, has been producing a variety of delicious donuts for over 40 years, but the stand outs are their fruit filled confections. What initially made me interested in the Highland Springs Resort was their lavender field. I, like many people, have always associated lavender fields with the town of Provence, never considering that rows of the fragrant flower can be found in several areas. Originally opened in 1917 the market, like the rest of Downtown Los Angeles, has experienced a significant renaissance in recent years but has still maintained its uniqueness and authenticity. Grand Central Market buzzes with activity from 8am 6pm Sunday through Wednesday and 8am 9pm Thursday through Saturday. Fun fact: the market is directly across the street from the Bradbury Building. Friday, February 21, 2014. I considered draping my coat across my shoulders, cape-like, but felt that would be too much and might even be illegal for non-Italians. I settled into simple routine. I would leave my apartment fairly early and dawdle over a caffè americano. And pastry at the restaurant downstairs and form some idea of what I wanted to do that day, then take a bus to Piazza del Populi. Some years back, when I first thought about going to Italy, I read a book by Luigi Barzini called The Italians.
