The Silk Farm | Not Going Gently
https://notgoinggently.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/the-silk-farm
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Other blogs and Twitter. Not too long ago Elysse. And I visited the Silk Farm. Just outside of Siem Reap. Students live and study here for one year, and upon completion return to their home towns (or to wherever they want, I suppose) to work and train others. They only train in one small part of the very lengthy process, which shall be outlined below. The worms are then left to make cocoons, which is where the silk comes from. In nature it looks more like this.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Other blogs and Twitter. The week in photos…. This Week in Photos. I’ve been travelling a bit this week, first to Siem Reap, then to Kep. Here are the photos of my week. Trivia night last week. I think we came 6th or 7th. Silk worms at the silk farm just out of Siem Reap. A full post will be coming of the silk farm later. Works at Anjali House. My local dumpling joint. Mmmm… dumplings. The Sailing Club in Kep. Read all about the kitten here. It started pouring r...

A Transparent Appeal For Your Envy | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/11/06/a-transparent-appeal-for-your-envy
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. A Transparent Appeal For Your Envy. In my very first post to Good Evening Vietnam I solemnly promised not to turn this place into “a journal of my thoughts, an ill-informed political diatribe, or a poor excuse for a travel review”. In retrospect, I seem to have failed miserably in keeping this vow (although I’ll protest in my defence that my ill-informed diatribes were rarely, if ever, political). Five (Somewhat Controversial) Tips for Living in Hanoi | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/12/21/five-somewhat-controversial-tips-for-living-in-hanoi
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. Five (Somewhat Controversial) Tips for Living in Hanoi. At the end of my seven-month stint as a volunteer living and working in Hanoi, I feel it’s fitting to pass on some of the “wisdom” (charitably defined) I have accumulated over my time here. As such, in my final post to Good Evening Vietnam, I’d like to present five lessons for. 1 ‘Boil it, peel it, cook it’ … forget about it! Sure, the nom ga lady has whole, uncooked chickens flapping...

What the “Beep”? | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/07/22/what-the-beep
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. What the “Beep”? Or, Musings on Hanoi Traffic. This post is rated (NA) and is considered unsuitable for my Nana. It contains motorcycles and traffic themes that may concern her. I know, I know, they probably just forgot. And so, when I came to the realisation that my travels in this city were going to be too hot, far-flung, and generally suicidal for cycling, too frequent and rambling for buses, and far too expensive and spontaneous for ta...

A Guided Tour of my Vietnamese Bathroom | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/a-guided-tour-of-my-vietnamese-bathroom
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. A Guided Tour of my Vietnamese Bathroom. Welcome to my Vietnamese bathroom! Feel free to take a look around and explore the sights. Quite pokey isn’t it? Cozy-like. And I personally think that ‘cozy’ is a perfectly fine quality for one’s fortress of solitude. There are however, a few slightly questionable design features to this bathroom. 1 A supplementary urinal. Changing the seated scenery from this unsightly eyesore:. The final odd desi...

The Limits of Familiarity | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/the-limits-of-familiarity
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. The Limits of Familiarity. Do you get offered guava-like fruit from strangers in the street? Why or why not? The other day I walked out of my front gate and into my little lane, only to be confronted by a mysterious woman proffering strange, green fruit. And she was chowing down one of them. I dropped my defences, backtracked on my excuses and bashfully accepted the offering. Uncle Ho lives on and enjoys cuddling people at hot reggae nights.

Good evening Vietnam! | Good Evening Vietnam
https://goodeveningvietnam.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/good-evening-vietnam
Inconsequential ramblings from an Australian volunteer in Hà Nội. Chameleon-like, Mike immediately blended into his surroundings. Welcome, dear reader, to the inane nocturnal musings of a bewildered Australian development volunteer living in Hanoi for seven months. Each new influx of passengers brought a fresh round of double-takes and barely disguised whisperings, to which I could only respond by grinning like an idiot and murmuring “Xin chào” to anyone who made eye contact. Eventually t...And not just ...
