Tears of the Desert: Figurative Language

http://www.enrichedorbook15.blogspot.com/2009/03/figurative-language_15.html

Tears of the Desert. Sunday, March 15, 2009. In Tears of the Desert, a lot of imagery is used. The author does an amazing job in allowing the reader to visualize the setting throughout the whole novel. During the section I read this week, Halima arrived at the “big school” in Hashma, which is a much more modernized school than the classroom in her village that takes place under the trees. March 15, 2009 at 7:14 PM. It is quite interesting to see how the styles of imagery in this book compare to the style...

Tears of the Desert: Setting

http://www.enrichedorbook15.blogspot.com/2009/03/setting.html

Tears of the Desert. Saturday, March 7, 2009. March 8, 2009 at 1:08 PM. March 8, 2009 at 4:08 PM. I agree with your view on the wealth of the families in Africa. I like your view on the modern and traditional African worlds coming together. I think that by adding the modern aspects of the village such as the jeep, and the use of English, the time period in which this story is taking place is easier seen. It also helps show how much the United States affects other countries. March 8, 2009 at 5:30 PM.

Tears of the Desert: Question?

http://www.enrichedorbook15.blogspot.com/2009/03/question_20.html

Tears of the Desert. Friday, March 20, 2009. Halima is quite the fighter throughout the memoir. She kicks and screams at her circumcision, refuses to get her scarring, and beats up an arab girl at the school. This feisty asset brings her both positive and negative outcomes. Do you think this trait is something Halima should continue to express? Or should she settle down, especially as the genocide begins when she could be put in very dangerous positions? The Book Thief

Monday, April 6, 2009. Weeks Four and Five. Question: Do you think maybe Zusak has had lots of encounters with death that may have caused him to write from the point of view of death, or do you think he may have just wanted to have an interesting narrator? Thoughts about the book: I really was not a big fan of the book. There were so many similes that they started to get on my nerves! And I think death was an interesting choice of narrator to begin with, but by the end death seemed a little. flighty?

One Hundred Years of Solitude

One Hundred Years of Solitude. Saturday, March 28, 2009. Final thoughts, week funf. I just finished One Hundred Years of Solitude today, and I must say, I was very pleased with the ending. I really appreciate it when an author can compose a satisfying ending, because so many times I feel like they are insufficient. It did leave me asking, however, were Melquiades parchments the novel itself, and we have been reading the entire time the history that he wrote? Or are these separate? Monday, March 23, 2009.
