Adventures in the kitchen

Monday, May 24, 2010. I really like this on my Lentil Walnut burgers. I’m sure there are other things it can be eaten with but I don’t know what…. 3/4 cup plain yogurt. 2 TBS chopped fresh cilantro leaves*. 1 TBS fresh lemon juice. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. I just grabbed a bunch of leaves and probably had way more than I needed, but it’s not really a recipe you can mess up…. Posted by Esther Leanne. I want to make these again! 3/4 cup lentils rinsed. 2 tsp ground cumin.

Adventures in the kitchen: Pasta with Potatoes, Green Beans and Pesto

http://www.estherskitchenescapades.blogspot.com/2010/05/pasta-with-potatoes-green-beans-and.html

Monday, May 24, 2010. Pasta with Potatoes, Green Beans and Pesto. I had some leftover pasta from another dish I made so I used it in this. I also used regular potatoes but they got slightly smooshy. 8 oz tubular pasta (or whatever kind you want. 8 oz green beans, trimmed and halved. Peel the potatoes and cut into 1 inch cube. Place them in a large pot of water and bring to a boil. Add salt and pasta. Return to a boil and cook for 2 minutes. Mix in the pesto and season with salt and pepper.

Heat the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, curry powder, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes or until the onion is soft.

Adventures in the kitchen: March 2010

http://www.estherskitchenescapades.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 15, 2010. I made Ciabatta Bread. For dinner tonight and my sister suggested I make an oil based dip for it. So I looked up a few recipes and invented! 1/2 cup olive oil. 1 tsp balsamic vinegar. 1/8 cup mixed herbs I used a mixture of chives, rosemary, basil, thyme and Italian seasoning. 1 or 2 garlic cloves - minced. 1/8 cup Parmesan Cheese. Pour the olive oil into a bowl and mix in the herbs, balsamic vinegar and minced garlic (I put everything in a food processor for a few seconds). Gentl...

Thursday, May 13, 2010. Tomato and Olive Pasta. I decided to make this last night and then realized I was missing some of the ingredients so I improvised. About a pound of short pasta. 1/4 cup olive oil. 2 garlic cloves thinly sliced*. 1/4 lb cherry tomatoes halved or quartered. 1 tsp dried oregano. 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional). 1/4 tsp black pepper. 1/4 cup kalamata olives – pitted and sliced*. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley* *. Adventures in the kitchen: Hamburger Rolls

http://www.estherskitchenescapades.blogspot.com/2010/05/hamburger-rolls.html

Monday, May 3, 2010. These rolls are really tasty and to say something completely dorky you will never buy hamburger rolls again after trying these ones. They are easily doubled and freeze well. 1 tablespoon white sugar. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 (25 tsp) (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast. Bake for 15 minutes or until nicely browned on the top and bottom. Posted by Esther Leanne. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Tomato and Olive Pasta.

Life As I See It: Breads

http://paulsbride.blogspot.com/2010/06/breads.html

I have long aspired to stop buying bread from the grocery store and make all of my own from scratch. What an incredible difference. Before sharing the recipe and how I served them here are the other two bread recipes I frequently make:. Is so very easy to make and is delicious - most especially with soup! It literally takes minutes to prepare the dough and then you can let it sit all day or all night and then just pour onto your baking dish. Seriously easy and so good! So tender and yummy. Add the water ...

Life As I See It: Boycotting Clothes

http://paulsbride.blogspot.com/2010/05/boycotting-clothes.html

Rebecca is a few years older than me and growing up my sister and I were always the beneficiaries of Rebecca and her sisters hand me downs. It was one of the highlights of my teen years getting clothes from her. Guess that tells you how exciting my teens years were, huh? When Rebecca heard about my challenge to only shop at second hand stores. She told me she was on a challenge to not buy any clothes for an entire year I was intrigued. And then forgot about it. I was inspired. How? You're a 'No Woman'!

Life As I See It: READING LIST

http://paulsbride.blogspot.com/p/reading-list.html

My non fiction reading list for 2010. The One Minute Manager. I really enjoyed this book. It is a quick read, to the point. And engaging. It expounds on the idea of running a business without micro managing your employees by giving One Minute Goals, One Minute Praisings, and One Minute Reprimands. Almost every concept in the book can easily be adapted to my life as a mom and raising my children. The Power of Less. Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours. The Four Hour Work Week. Schwan's - What to Order, and What Not to Order. I have ordered food from Schwan's. A few times this year and it's such a fun treat as well as wonderfully convenient to have the individually frozen foods waiting for me in the freezer. From Facebook comments and messages I know quite a few have ordered from Schwan's before and have shared your favorite foods - if you would do it again in the comments here I would appreciate it! My two favorite items from Schwan's are the Chicken Breasts. The bag says you ...

Life As I See It: Last Minute

http://paulsbride.blogspot.com/2010/06/last-minute.html

Yesterday we took a last minute trip to the beach - a 6 hour round trip drive for 2 hours on the beach. One of my favorite parts about our trips to the beach are the long car rides for us to talk. Paul talks best when he drives. I generally like to spend longer at the beach than 2 hours, but it was the best we could do - and I appreciated Paul's adventurous spirit. It was the exact crazy and fun and bonding experience we needed after some busy times with work and remodeling. Posted by Jessica Morris.

Life As I See It: You in the Pictures

http://paulsbride.blogspot.com/2010/06/you-in-pictures.html

You in the Pictures. I don't have a lot of pictures of me just being. With the boys, and over the past week Paul has been changing that and these pictures mean more to me than I would have imagined. We played Ring Around the Rosy - until the boys, who were wearing white, dramatically fell down at the end of the little chorus onto the red brick. That game ended and we moved on to London Bridges. We giggled and played and Paul captured the precious moments. Mommy, hold my hand. Just the every day. I too am...
