Exploring the East Coast Greenway. Year 3: Two 300-mile-plus bike rides! Newer posts →. Day 3 — 43.2 miles from Fayetteville to Elizabethtown. October 5, 2016. Today was all about getting to the charming Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. In Elizabethtown for lunch. No trails today, just mostly quiet roads, though generally without a nice shoulder. Chris and I flew, averaging more than 15 miles an hour. Nice tailwind too. I don’t know if I’ve ever been this consistently fast. October 5, 2016. But today was m...

Day 2: 31 miles from Richmond to Petersburg. Day 3: 80 miles from Petersburg to South Hill. Day 4: 37 miles from South Hill west to Clarksville. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

End of summer – Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners

https://alliumstozinnias.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/end-of-summer

Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. Catching up after a hectic two-plus months. The black-eyed Susans, which dominate the front bed, have been in bloom since mid-July. They’re now rapidly fading, but they kept the garden looking bright. How many can I give to neighbors? Phlox, purple coneflowers and black-eyed Susans. Lot of phlox and coneflowers this year:. Ornamental grass and black-eyed Susans (told you they were everywhere):. A gardener (a...

Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. I’ve been horribly neglectful of this blog (how else do I explain that April post published at the end of June? But it’s shaping up to be a fabulous season in the garden. Coming soon will be tomatoes — there already are green ones on some plants, plus plenty of yellow flowers. That makes me happy! And just small peek at the garden now:. June 29, 2014. Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. Two days of sunshine and temperatures that hit 50! And on a weekend! Yes, more snow is possible tonight and later in the week, but for now, after this brutal winter, I am thinking spring and the garden. Not that I can really see much green. The snow, while melting, is still deep, the raised beds are covered and the crocuses are nowhere to be seen. The river behind us? Sprawling from all the runoff. A gardene...

Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. The forecast for tonight is a low of 34 or 33, and tomorrow night’s low is supposed to be 33. Winter is closing in on us, and it is getting too cold to risk some of our vegetables. And our Portuguese hot pepper plants were just bursting! So out I went into the cold (it feels colder than 48! And harvested three dozen of those red peppers. Those alone filled a good-sized mixing bowl! The red Swiss chard can ha...

Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. Red, white and blue in the garden. There’s plenty of red (bee balm) and white (daisies) — and if you look closely, you might find a speck of blue-ish nepeta walker’s low tucked in there. Well, it’s there, if not in the photo. Or if you prefer it all spread out, also across the garden:. Happy Fourth of July! July 4, 2014. July 2, 2014. The hosta of my desire. I figure I have a few choices: always travel with ...

Alliums to Zinnias: A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. A journey of two New Jersey gardeners. Setting myself up for a tomato glut. Every year I vow that I will restrain myself with tomato plants. And I do — sort of — when it comes time to put them in a raised bed. But I am less restrained when it comes to starting seeds. After all, you never know what will germinate and what will flop, right? This year could be at least as bad. Even if I can’t pull off that last part, I could have quite the col...

Exploring Business in Africa

Exploring Business in Africa. Recruiting Rafiki (and getting rid of the guy in the Land Rover). August 18, 2013. In the last post. I described the challenges involved in setting up and operating a sustainable last-mile distribution network. In Tanzania. Chief among them is the difficult navigation of the very limited transportation infrastructure. Typical road conditions in Arusha, Tanzania. The success or failure of the entire business depends on the success of the Rafiki themselves. Yet most of the...

Exploring the East Coast Greenway. Year 3: Two 300-mile-plus bike rides! That beautiful East Bay Trail! November 30, 2016. This trail runs 15 miles starting in Providence, Rhode Island, along the Narragansett Bay south to Bristol. The East Bay Trail connects to the main East Coast Greenway. It felt incredibly busy with bikers, walkers and joggers on a late Friday afternoon. I’m not giving Veterans Day all the credit — a lot of us don’t get it off. Instead I took these:. This guy isn’t.
