Biketopus: The joys of sewing knits
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-joys-of-sewing-knits.html
Sunday, April 7, 2013. The joys of sewing knits. I've made so many things over the past nine months or so that I haven't blogged about (including two tailored jackets! Anyways, my beloved local sewing workshop Emeline and Annabelle. Closed down about six months ago, and with it went my access to a serger (as well as my wonderful sewing sunday afternoons with my local sewists). So around Christmas, I decided to splurge and get myself a serger. Amazon.ca had this. Here's my latest serger project:. With the...

Biketopus: July 2012
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 26, 2012. You might think based on my radio silence here on the blog that there hasn't been much in the way of sewing, biking, or other hobbies in Biketopus land, but that's actually not the case. I've been getting a fair number of things done, including reaching a significant milestone on my processor quilt. I finally have the entire thing pieced! So I could have some company while I stitched what felt like miles of straight lines. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Like many others on the inter...

Biketopus: Marimekko pants
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2013/06/marimekko-pants.html
Friday, June 28, 2013. Printed pants are all over the place right now, and what could be better than Marimekko printed pants? Affectionately told me that if I wore these to teach I would probably be known as Professor CrazyPants. There are probably worse things to be known for in academia, but suffice it to say I've decided these will probably remain weekend pants. On the plus side, this is now the third pair of bottoms that I've sewn recently using my digital pants sloper. July 8, 2013 at 4:31 PM. Like ...

Biketopus: Culotte slips for summer skirts
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2010/06/culotte-slips-for-summer-skirts.html
Thursday, June 3, 2010. Culotte slips for summer skirts. Summer weather is here in full force in Ithaca, and I've started unpacking some of my summer clothes. I really like changing over my wardrobe. there's something that feels optimistic about stuffing those sweaters to the back of the closet, like winter is never going to come back (ha! I also really love unpacking clothes that I haven't seen in a while, and in some cases even forgot that I had. April 19, 2012 at 9:15 PM. Like many other sewing obsess...

Biketopus: Sorbetto top and a cheater FBA fitting method
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2011/06/sorbetto-top-and-cheater-fba-fitting.html
Monday, June 6, 2011. Sorbetto top and a cheater FBA fitting method. Like many others on the internet, I was thrilled when Sarai and her team at Colette patterns released the free Sorbetto pattern. A little while ago. The weather was finally warm in Montreal, the pattern looked quick and easy to sew, and it's easy on yardage so I could use up some of the one yard pieces I have in my stash. The finished product is very easy to wear (see how relaxed I look on my balcony up there? Mine will look awesome too!

Biketopus: January 2012
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 1, 2012. Sorbetto is the pattern that just keeps on giving! Like many out here in the sewing internets, I've made a bunch of these now. Here are a few more versions:. This one is for my mom, made out of a fabric that she purchased while on vacation. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but this was not a fun fabric to work with! As well, so maybe the Colette patterns sloper has shoulders that are just a bit too broad for me? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Only interested in a few of those things?

Biketopus: May 2013

Sunday, May 5, 2013. Vegan apple marzipan cake. This cake has come to be known in our household as the SO's birthday cake, because he loves but it's labor intensive enough that I only make it for special occasions (ie, his birthday). The most fabulous bit about this cake is the thin layer of marzipan rolled out over the top and glazed with apricot jam and rum right after it comes out of the oven. Yum! 1 1/3 c flour. 10 drops lemon extract. 1/4 c soy (or almond) milk. 1 3/4 c flour. 2 tsp baking powder.

Biketopus: August 2013
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 18, 2013. Another quick knit project, constructed mainly on my serger. Knits really are great for instant gratification! I downloaded and pieced together the pattern yesterday morning, and today the dress is mainly completed (I still have to let the dress hang a day before I hem it since the skirt is on the bias). The pattern is the Tiramisu. Dress from Cake Patterns. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Only interested in a few of those things? Introducing my new sewing room! Another quick knit pr...

Biketopus: Cubicle makeover
http://biketopus.blogspot.com/2011/05/cubicle-makeover.html
Wednesday, May 25, 2011. This is a project that has been a long time in the making! With several other grad students and postdocs. The only downside to this setup is that the university has provided us all with office-beige cubicles, which I find totally depressing. If you're going to look at a wall for 8 hours a day, it had better not be a wall colored in oatmeal-colored synthetic fabric, IMHO. So, I gave myself a bit of a budget to make over this average looking cubicle. The white bookshelf was brought...
