Miss Croghan’s Accessories, Part 1: Things Get Ruff | Fabric & Fiction
https://fabricnfiction.wordpress.com/2015/06/28/miss-croghans-accessories-part-1-things-get-ruff
Adventures in story and stitchery. Miss Croghan’s Accessories, Part 1: Things Get Ruff. June 28, 2015. June 28, 2015. When I first started interpreting 1816, I loved pretty much every aspect of clothing (as I do in many eras) but there was one accessory I shook my head at. I laughed about it. I swore I would never wear it. You’ll see what I mean:. I thought it was silly. Why would anyone want to make their neck wider? Or look like a disgruntled chicken fluffing her feathers? Then it’s time to hem, ...

Adventures in story and stitchery. Tutorial: Patternless Full Gathered Skirt. April 19, 2016. There are some very exciting things coming up on the event roster! At the end of the month I will by putting on my foot wigs and spending a weekend in the Shire at ALEP 3.5. And immersive Lord of the Rings themed event at the Shaker Village. A peasant blouse with half-length sleeves. Optional) a shawl or other tucker worn loosely around the shoulders with ends tucked into the front of the bodice. The first item ...

https://fabricnfiction.wordpress.com/2015/06/01/the-wedding-of-miss-croghan-part-3-poof-puff-pouf
Adventures in story and stitchery. The Wedding of Miss Croghan, Part 3: Poof? June 1, 2015. Welcome back to the story of the 1822 wedding dress for the wedding of Ann Croghan and Thomas Jesup at Historic Locust Grove–if you haven’t read parts 1. Please check them out! My big triumph for the beginning of the week was getting all of those pintucks done! After another look at my research images, I realized it should be a bit longer than I had originally planned for). Why the poofs of course! I divided each ...

Adventures in story and stitchery. Miss Croghan’s Accessories, Part 2: Tambour Time! July 12, 2015. July 12, 2015. Brandon got me the things I needed to start doing tambour for my birthday in March, but then things go so busy that I never got the chance to start, though I had several projects planned. But in the past couple of weeks, I could put it off no longer, because guess what Ann Croghan needed for her wedding? Once again, these two lovely brides from 1820 and 1823 were my inspiration. 8221; But so...

Lady of the Wilderness. Previously Music, Corsets and Star Wars. Asymp; Leave a comment. I wanted to post a few pics here before I forgot of a recent event I was able to attend! In McArthur, Ohio, there has been a day-long festival 6 years running, inwhich boys and girls of young and old are able to transport themselves into the far-away Fairyland. More pictures at Fairy Fest on Facebook. The Faun talking to children about fairy/gnome houses. My Ridiculously large fairy crown! Check out my Etsy Shop!

Lady of the Wilderness. Previously Music, Corsets and Star Wars. Asymp; 1 Comment. It’s no secret that people everywhere have fallen in love with Lucy Maude Montgomery’s red-headed orphan, Anne Shirley. My mom and I are equally obsessed and decided it was high time to visit her homeland of Prince Edward Island. Now that we’re back and settled I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from the trip! First there was Green Gables. And we bought some silly pottery for toothbrushes. Ate an amazing lobster!

Lady of the Wilderness. Previously Music, Corsets and Star Wars. Asymp; 5 Comments. I have always wanted an 18th century Stays(as they were not called corsets until the 1800’s) and on Friday, I just decided I was going to make’em. 13 eighteen-inch Heavy Duty Cable ties. 52ish fourteen-inch zip ties (regular strength). 1 1/2 yards of canvas material (for me). 1 1/4 pkg of double fold bias tape. Took me 15ish hours (over 3 days time). I started with this handy dandy site. Larr; Previous post. 😛 Youve defi...

Bygone Elegance: January 2016

Saturday, 30 January 2016. I have been a little quiet for the past few days, partly due to a horrible cold and persistent headache. However, between trying to sleep off my headache and working my day job, I have made some progress on my 1880s corset. Hopefully I will get round to posting about this shortly to update you on my experiments with blue dye and pattern mockups. In the meantime, this is just a quick promotion for my Etsy shop. Where my girls' mid Victorian underwear is now for sale. This corset...

My adventures in the arts of story and stitchery. Sunshine, Daisies, Butter Mellow. August 5, 2015. August 5, 2015. Several months ago, a friend of mine heard of a fabric store that was going out of business several towns over. That was sad of course, but it meant it was time for a road trip! I should have taken pictures of the two rounds of mockups we did in order to get the bodice fit exactly right, but sadly, I did not. I’ll begin with the real bodice instead. This fabric is basically an extra-large s...
