The Global "Z": March 2015
http://theglobalz.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
My adventures, mis-adventures and non-adventures as I travel, stay put, or anything inbetween. Sunday, March 22, 2015. The past two weeks have been full of the mundane: studying, thinking about doing taxes, getting a haircut, finally having cleaners come clean the apartment (it's shiny, squeaky clean still, three days later! I reconnected with a local friend over dinner and drinks another night, in keeping with last blog post's thoughts of maintaining friendships. To end on a positive note, even with the...

The Global "Z"
http://theglobalz.blogspot.com/2015/02/flag-day-was-yesterday-this-is-state.html
My adventures, mis-adventures and non-adventures as I travel, stay put, or anything inbetween. Saturday, February 14, 2015. Flag Day was yesterday! This is the State Department's informal ceremony notifying new Foreign Service officers of their first posting. I got one of my top choices: Bamako, Mali! My parents and some good friends were there to cheer me on, which was fantastic! Another note about Flag Day: my colleagues nominated me for the Glenn Munroe award, which is named for a past Foreign Service...

The Global "Z": 35
http://theglobalz.blogspot.com/2015/07/35.html
My adventures, mis-adventures and non-adventures as I travel, stay put, or anything inbetween. Sunday, July 12, 2015. The start of my 35th year is going well so far! I had a lovely dinner with some long-time local friends at my favorite restaurant in DC and received several nice gifts and phone calls from family and friends. I feel celebrated! I was down and out for two straight days before the meds kicked in and started alleviating the symptoms. It'll take awhile longer, but hopefully this course of...

Mimi Boling = Michelle Collett: August 2014
http://mimihalley.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 10, 2014. Oh, I'm all over the place these days. So, that's me these days. Trying to balance all of those emotions and keep the house clean. While I'm discussing me, I had lots of extra emotions two weekends ago. I left my children! For the first time since Jill was born, I left my kids! Go be Mimi Boling again! And I kind of felt panicked like, "I don't even know who Mimi Boling is anymore! So much of me is being a mom and a wife that it was (at a risk of overusing the word) really weird.

Mimi Boling = Michelle Collett: Gah.
http://mimihalley.blogspot.com/2014/12/gah.html
Friday, December 19, 2014. This week, I have been experiencing what some call "all the feels." Emotions everywhere. Why? Well, because this finally happened. I have been attempting to "leave well" and follow some of the tips I read in this great article back in June when leaving still seemed so far away. ( Here is a link to the article, if you're curious; it's fantastic. Does moving ever get easier? I have moved a lot in my life, but this move is different in a few ways. First, obviously, because I'm...

Mimi Boling = Michelle Collett: Gordie Bug
http://mimihalley.blogspot.com/p/gordie-bug.html
Gordon Philip Collett Boling. Our little Gordie Bug has arrived and with him has come lots of nicknames. He is, of course, Gordon. But he's also Gordie Bug and Gordito and Gordoncito and Flip. Time will tell which will stick and who this sweet little boy is going to be! Of all the animals, the boy is the most unmanageable. You don't raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes. 8212;Walter M. Schirra, Sr. And I'm a Mormon!

Mimi Boling = Michelle Collett: Pulled Over
http://mimihalley.blogspot.com/2015/01/tomorrow-marks-three-weeks-in-our-new.html
Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Tomorrow marks three weeks in our new home. I have learned a few things in these past three weeks. I will impart that wisdom to you, because I'm generous like that. Oh my goodness—driving. That doesn't really work here. The motto here seems to be that "if it fits—well, it will fit." I thought I was driving in a one-lane street. Well, the other cars didn't get the memo. If they can squeeze next to me, they will. I'm not sure if that is going to be possible. Drivers make double...

The Global "Z": February 2015
http://theglobalz.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
My adventures, mis-adventures and non-adventures as I travel, stay put, or anything inbetween. Tuesday, February 17, 2015. It was a three day weekend, made into a four day weekend by the lovely snow! And what, you may ask yourself, have I been doing? Why, spazzing out about my post, of course! Between bouts of Mali-intensive research, I have written an organizational change paper for class and spent time with my brother, who is staying with me until next weekend. I've also had fun e-mailing with many...

The Global "Z": January 2015
http://theglobalz.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
My adventures, mis-adventures and non-adventures as I travel, stay put, or anything inbetween. Saturday, January 31, 2015. It's amazing to me that we're already halfway through A-100. Some of my classmates are more surprised that we still have three weeks left. It's a matter of perspective and anticipation, I suppose. In any case, the last two weeks have been a continued stream from the fire hydrant of State Department information, organization, culture, and processes. How big is the embassy? My class of...
