Crooked Shade Farm: January 2015
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Friday, January 30, 2015. What a beautiful night! It’s still and dark, with a glow that lights up the surroundings. A light snow is falling, and all is quiet and hushed. Even my footsteps were muffled in the soft snow. As I returned from the barn after feeding, I stood outside the door for a few long moments, drinking it in. Instead of taking off my coat and hat as I entered, I called to Zoë and out we went again. Since I run my herd together, l...

Crooked Shade Farm: June 2013
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Friday, June 21, 2013. An experiment in fostering. Here was the milk bar they'd been looking for all along! Every 2 hours, Shawn and I came out, fed Violet, and guided the kids to the milk station. On day 4, Wednesday, I put Violet and the kids into a small enclosure with an electric web fence. Oh, how hard it is to hold those tiny babies close to the fence until they reach out and touch it! It was wonderful to see them sniffing the grass, playi...

Crooked Shade Farm: Bringing it all up to date
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/bringing-it-all-up-to-date.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Saturday, July 18, 2015. Bringing it all up to date. I can't believe it's been so long since I posted. Since then, we have three new kids, all purebred Saanens. Beatrice kidded with one doeling on May 8th, which I promptly named Neptune's Fantasy. She's very correct, and will probably be on her way to Pennsylvania by early August. Fantasy Greenears after tattooing. Franz, aka "Frankie". Dandelion is in the background. Frankie, Fantasy, and Fleur.

Crooked Shade Farm: December 2013
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Sunday, December 29, 2013. Mixing it all up. I have two young does visiting here to be bred. They are happily cavorting with Deaglan, my Sable buck, but the wether, Dewey, was a bit overwhelmed with this sudden influx of (gasp) new goats! Everyone's out of the comfort zone and they're all getting along. Thursday, December 12, 2013. The hay net continues to be a hit. Beatrice and Leah chase everyone else away when they can. Angel, of cour...I saw...

Crooked Shade Farm: Kids, kids, kids
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015/03/kids-kids-kids.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Saturday, March 28, 2015. Kids, kids, kids. D’Arcy kidded on Sunday the 22nd. I thought Cassie would be the one to kid, since she had her front legs elevated and was yawning and stretching. Her ligaments had been soft earlier, but were firm when I checked them late afternoon and evening. I had given them both Pulsatilla that morning and put hay down in the stall to kid on. Suddenly Lynne or Olivia said, “their ears are hard, is that normal?

Crooked Shade Farm: January 2014

Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Monday, January 20, 2014. Treating burns with heat. A couple of days ago, I was taking hot pans out of the oven. In a rush, and not paying attention, I started to pick up a hot baking dish, but quickly let it go- too late. My fingers burned! And have always had at least mild blisters, or at least reddened skin, but not this time. Treating burns with heat is very homeopathic, to say the least. Wednesday, January 8, 2014. With all the snow and bit...

Crooked Shade Farm: Milk test
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015/04/milk-test.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Sunday, April 26, 2015. Today is the first milk test. I'm sure I'm complicating everything far more than necessary (why make it easy, when with just a little effort you can make it really. Nothing straightforward about it. I think I need to find out how others do it so I can streamline this a bit. Moderation is just so Im aware of your comment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Crooked Shade Farm Blog. Crooked Shade Farm: More kids
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015/05/more-kids.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Violet kidded Saturday, twins (of course), a doe and a buck. That makes 5 and 5 so far. The doeling is a black sundgau with the same wry tail as her sire. Hopefully that will disappear, as did the other kid's wry tail. The other is- no surprise- a caped Sable, just like his sire. Mime certainly does stamp his offspring. Moderation is just so Im aware of your comment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Crooked Shade Farm: February 2015
http://crookedshadefarm.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Random thoughts on life: how it is, and how it ought to be. Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Can goats have cabin fever? Two nights ago as I was feeding, I noticed Dandelion, one of my young does, with a bloody head. Obviously she's been butting heads with one of the others, the question only remained- who? White goats are easy to check, and no one else looked like her opponent . When I checked darker heads, it was too hard to be sure, but I suspected Cassie. Dandy's head looks very sore. It was a daunting ...
