So, friends, every day do something that won't compute… -Wendell Berry. Laying the beds to rest. Last year, we didn’t do a lot of fall prep, so I feel good about getting it done. Things look good. Thank goodness for helpful hands! What we buy at the farmer’s market. Fruit We don’t grow much fruit at all, unfortunately. So, we buy (in season) strawberries, blueberries, cantelope, watermelon, grapes, peaches, apples, pears, and blackberries. This requires a large purchase of green beans from the market.
Mosquitoes | Farm City Folk

So, friends, every day do something that won't compute… -Wendell Berry. Now that we have (sort of) conquered the flies, I want to tackle the mosquitoes. We have so many that sometimes they keep me from going outside. I know all the common knowledge: no standing water, mow your grass, use bt dunks to kill larvae. But all that is just not enough for the ones who have taken over our yard. Do I really have to get a bat house and learn the bird call for the purple martin? Connected by DROID on Verizon Wireless.

Wonder upon Wonder. Inspired by Ordinary Treasures. Saturday, May 21, 2011. Lord, Have mercy. Tears have been falling, righteous anger is rising. Things in the neighborhood are very tough right now. Please pray and after you pray, please take steps to live your prayer. For SS, C.W., V.R., R.K. Sermon post: Luke 24:13-25. The Prayer this morning will be both visual and spoken, so as we pray, I would like to ask you to keep your eyes open. The Lord is with you. And also with you. Money, grenade, gun. More ...

little tree trimmings: September 2011
http://littletreetrimmings.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Wonder upon Wonder. Inspired by Ordinary Treasures. Thursday, September 29, 2011. I may be crazy taking two toddlers to a nice italian place by myself, but I did and the boys were complete angels. We even got a compliment from the extremely surgically enhanced couple sitting by us. I was so ultra productive today that I decided to balance with total unproductivity this evening. I finally got new shoes. Maybe my feet won't hurt so badly. One can only hope. That's it for now. Tuesday, September 13, 2011.
the “f” word (part II) | catching visions
https://spenge.wordpress.com/2009/05/16/the-f-word-part-ii
Looking out, around, and within. The “f” word (part II). May 16, 2009. That I recently posted about it, and despite the fact that we talked about it in Beer and Theology, I’m still thinking about that pesky ol’ “F” word. Yeah, that’s right:. We asked ourselves some hard questions at Beer and Theology: What does it feel like to forgive? Who does forgiveness benefit, the one in the wrong or the one who was wronged? These are hard questions. Forgiveness itself is hard. What does it mean to forgive? Looking ...

Looking out, around, and within. July 29, 2010. Written here in quite a while. And so, a year has passed: romantic relationships have come and gone, books have been read and passed on, weddings have been performed, coffee has been brewed, and new ventures are now on the horizon. I think it’s time I pick up my pencil and begin writing again. There is much to say these days. I was reminded of the mundane this morning as I read some from. A Friend To All Men: The Diary of a Worker-Priest. Resilient and earn...

Wonder upon Wonder. Inspired by Ordinary Treasures. Thursday, August 16, 2012. August 14, 2012. Tuesday, August 14th. Jason called at 1:30am. He saw police cars. Greg went outside. A shooting. Later, the news said a teenager had been shot. 7:30am- Dave called. Jane Bass died. Cathy was headed to Hospice. I hopped in the shower and headed to hospice care. Greg was taking boys to the babysitter and then going to work. Why was he out at night? Why didn’t we hear the shots? Why does a 16 year old have a gun?

http://littletreetrimmings.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Wonder upon Wonder. Inspired by Ordinary Treasures. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Enuma Okoro in Reluctant. Writes, "It felt like the sadness you feel after you finally decide to stop trying to make a bad relationship work- defeated resignation tinged with stabs of relief and momentary freedom.". Before recently, I don't think Okoro's words would have resonated with me, but I read them today and say, "Yes! I know exactly how that feels! What about unconditional love? Monday, January 2, 2012. little tree trimmings: Why I almost didn't vote AGAINST Amendment One
http://littletreetrimmings.blogspot.com/2012/05/why-i-almost-didnt-vote-against.html
Wonder upon Wonder. Inspired by Ordinary Treasures. Thursday, May 10, 2012. Why I almost didn't vote AGAINST Amendment One. Let me be clear. I voted against Amendment One. The Amendment is discriminatory and wrong on many levels. I never would have voted for it, but I almost didn't vote against it. Here's why:. You can't take a stand half way! Where were these people when Raeshawn and I were being verbally attacked by a police officer because he had dreads and I was challenging the officer's words? Becau...
