The Farmer's Wife Daily: December 2009

http://www.farmerswifedaily.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

The Farmer's Wife Daily. Our journey in eating and growing local in sunshiny Florida. Wednesday, December 2, 2009. There are about a million and ten reasons why its good to eat local. I could go on and on about it. but I won't. I'll just share our recent dinner that was about 90% local. Cream of yellow squash soup, arugula salad with toasted pecans and feta, and fresh squeezed orange/tangerine/lemon juice. It was yummy! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Farmer's Wife Daily. Our journey in eating and growing local in sunshiny Florida. Thursday, January 21, 2010. Crusty Bread for Everyone! So, prior to the Fall, I was set on finally learning how to make a nice crusty loaf of bread. I bought the book. I was also amazed at how EASY it was to do it, given the proper guidance and tools. This one calls for no proofing and no kneading, which I find amazing! Here is my recipe, Organic Crusty Bread Recipe (adapted from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day). 4 On ...

The Farmer's Wife Daily: winter salads

http://www.farmerswifedaily.blogspot.com/2010/01/winter-salads.html

The Farmer's Wife Daily. Our journey in eating and growing local in sunshiny Florida. Monday, January 11, 2010. A great way to make and use local ingredients in the winter is to be creative with your salads. I get bored with what people usually expect of a salad. lettuce, tomato, cucumber. they're all well and good, but anyone notice that in most parts of the country this is a bonafide summer salad? How lazy are you that you need this? But, believe me folks this is one thing you absolutely need! Crusty B...

Finding Luna Park: November 2009

Friday, November 20, 2009. Future Uncertainties and Past Realities. This day has culminated into a series of small panic attacks over various events and deadlines that resulted from one thing - this damn dissertation. This morning Zach woke up at 7:30 and rushed out the door to start his first day working on MSU's student organic farm. I envy his ability to be useful to society. I sometimes have this feeling teaching.but geez, I swear this dissertation will be the death of me! This has really become noti...

Finding Luna Park: December 2009

http://findinglunapark.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 18, 2009. If I had a box. If I had a box that I kept artifacts of the past in. What would I keep in it? A weenie whistle found at a yard sale when I was a teenager. A worn and faded photograph of me and my mom - she was younger then than I am now. Old band stickers from my favorite band, the Smashing Pumpkins. My sanitary napkin disposal bag collection (unused! My favorite book from when I was young (Andrea, I'm planning another blog on the illustrations). My kindergarten drawing book.

Finding Luna Park: March 2010

Monday, March 1, 2010. Learning to Be Away. Despite the title of this entry, I am certain I will never really learn to cope with separating from the places and people I love. Being in South Africa has given me plenty (and plenty) of time alone with my thoughts. I've been listening to some of the music that reminds me of Michigan.but not too much, because like Andrea. Has already pointed out, it makes me very homesick. For three years I tried to get several different people to take me up North, where I ha...

Finding Luna Park: January 2010

http://findinglunapark.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 29, 2010. When historians are in the archives, it is as close as they will physically come to the people they are studying. When reading letters on thin yellowed sheets of paper, I take special note to small details. A slight stain makes you curious - was there a coffee drip? When you know the big picture to the small details it can be almost painful to read Olive's letters at times. Posted by Micalee Sullivan. Monday, January 11, 2010. Although I'll miss my little monkeys while I'm gone,...

Finding Luna Park: February 2010

http://findinglunapark.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 13, 2010. Yesterday my dad sent me a story that he had written to his workplace newsletter. He shared his experience with moving into a new house and that sort of odd sentimental pain you feel about leaving your former home. Here's a section of it:. Increased racial oppression within the country eventually led to the Government's re-zoning of District Six into a "Whites Only" area in 1966. Thousands were forced out of their homes and the destruction of their communities began under...

10 Facts About the Amazing Egg. March 28, 2018. Spring is supposedly in full swing and, when the weather warms, up my hens lay more. Most of them have laid all winter-the layers especially but the fancy breeds like the Pekins and my silkie tend to have a little break over the winter months. I’m sure you know we love eggs here. The Farmer's Wife Day by Day.

The Farmer's Wife Day by Day. Monday, 17 August 2015. Off to Market we Go. I won't go into the various odours! Needless to say it is a pretty male dominated environment as well. This trip has normally been a bit of a family outing with cousins and friends coming along. Today only Kate was free to go and I went along to keep her company. Choosing the right sheep, bidding for them, paying for them and loading them is no mean feat when you are not even 21 but she did brilliantly. Or maybe a mature ewe.
