Tin Roof Gardens: September 2013
http://tinroofgardens.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Musings from a Zone 7 garden in Maryland. Saturday, September 7, 2013. September blooms as fall approaches. Canna Durban, also sold as Phasion Tropicana is quite a beauty. The foliage alone is worth having this plant in your garden. The contrasting orange bloom is just icing on the cake. Generally safe to USDA Zone 7b winters, you should dig them up if your winters are colder than 10 degrees. Moist soil and plenty of sun will make them happy. Musings from a Zone 7 garden in Maryland. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. The Start of Summer! Nothing says summer like Phlox, Petunia and Bee Balm. There are also a few Cleome (white and pink) on the right. Sorry for the ultra bright image and glowing flowers. I'm still trying to figure out my camera. This is Spiraea japonica Gold Mound in full bloom. Spirea do best in full sun but this one gets about 6 hours. Chartreuse foliage and pink flowers. This one stands out in a crowd. This rosa Virginiana. Its a n...

http://tinroofgardens.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Musings from a Zone 7 garden in Maryland. Saturday, July 26, 2014. A stroll through the summer garden. This season we decided to mix and match perennial and annuals to fill gaps in bloom cycles. It worked out well. Next season we will refine the selection and intensify the color palette and bloom density. Not bad for the first season though. A very tall pink Phlox with backdrop of White Moth hydrangea. Luna White Hibiscus with a pink petunia at its foot. This is a large bed of Oriental Lilium Josephine i...

Musings from a Zone 7 garden in Maryland. Saturday, October 27, 2012. The last of the season. Fall chill in the air. The gorgeous red leaves of Oakleaf Hydrangea 'Alice really stand out. They don't market the fall characteristics of this variety but should. The leaves are quite large at 12 to 14 inches across. A yellow Knockout rose giving it one last flourish. Rosa Oktoberfest with a few water droplets on the petal. Links to this post. Saturday, October 6, 2012. The final blooms as fall approaches .

Tin Roof Gardens: June 2013
http://tinroofgardens.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Musings from a Zone 7 garden in Maryland. Friday, June 28, 2013. Gotta Love the Lilies! Last fall I decided to replace the bed of Stargazer Lilies with. Oriental Lily Josephine. The Stargazers had become weak and no longer produced. As first season lily bulbs go, the Josephine blooms are very large, showy and fragrant. They are not as fragrant as Stargazers but I'm not disappointed at all. Next year they should be stunning. This is a nice closeup of Josephine. Simply beautiful. Scarlet Canna Indica bloom...
