My Next 30 Years! Monday, May 23, 2016. The Time Has Come! Hmmmwell.five years of "my next 30 years" are over. My time in Shishmaref, Alaska has come to an end. I will leave for the last time tomorrow morning (May 24). It marks the end of my time here in this remote Inupiat Eskimo village just south of the Arctic Circle and 100 miles across the Chukchi Sea from Russia. It marks the end of my 35 years of teaching. Shucks.now what? What will I do with my remaining 25 years (or more.hopefully, not less)!

My Next 30 Years! Saturday, April 28, 2012. Here's what the trip from Shishmaref to Nome looks like from the air. These aren't the ice pictures I was originally hoping for in Nome, but I still enjoyed taking these! Check this out.I finally found that gosh darn bird again here in Nome. I could hear him but he wouldn't come out of hiding.but I was determined! So, as I sat in the Polar Cafe enjoying an omelet, orange juice and coffee and pondering the lost photo, my mind began to "justify" my experience.
