The following are all works by the C19th Sculptor John Gibson. Here they illustrate the kinds of work we can do in terms of repairs, modelling, mould making and replicating. The bottom half of The Boxer as it arrived in our workshop. The top half missing the right fore arm. This model was originally cast from a complete set of piece moulds which would have enabled multiple casts to be made. Rusting armatures removed and limbs re fixed. Back to the top. Before and after repairs. The tympanum and drum undergoing repairs. The tympanum was carved in 1778 by Nathaniel Smith to a design by Cipriani. The drum before repairs were completed. Completed repairs to drum detail. Rotten wood and losses were repaired with new wood. Techniques and materials used in the repair of wooden boats were adapted to deal with the cracks and joints. Column Bases

The original scagliola columns and bases had cracked badly due to movement in the building and particularly the parquet floor. We had to devise a way of replacing the bases without affecting the columns above. The columns were cracked but repairable. The column bases were replaced with exact copies. The new bases support the columns independently from the scagliola and allow for movement in the parquet floor. The two halves of the new bases being fitted into place. Back to the top.
Bear Garden at the Royal Courts of Justice

The polychrome decoration in the Bear Garden is one of the few remaining areas in the Royal Courts of Justice to have retained Edmund Streets' original 1880's design. The wall plaster was cracking and becoming detached from the background brickwork. Plaster and stone detail. Areas of live plaster and cracking are marked onto the walls with chalk. Grout was made to flow behind the crests from the surrounding areas. Back to the top. Farthing and Gannon Ltd 2012.
The Watts Gallery

The glaze has blistered and flaked from a significant area. Watts Gallery was built in 1903 to house the work of the artist G.F.Watts. The gallery has recently undergone a major restoration and refurbishment. Historically there has been a problem with the adhesion of the copper green glaze to the body of the terracotta window arches. The remaining surface was cleaned of cement residues and consolidated to prevent further losses. The glazed effect was then replicated in the missing areas. Back to the top.
