About us

The Fearn Peninsula is the eastern part of the Scottish mainland between the Moray Firth and the Dornoch Firth. The area is easily reached from the City of Inverness, capital of the Highlands; and rewards visitors with a suite of services to compliment its natural beauty. Picturesque villages and outstanding beaches characterise this fertile region - its long associations with fishing and farming still evident today. Email: info@tarbat-discovery.co.uk. Tarbat Discovery Centre

http://fearnpeninsula.org.uk/tdc.html

In 1980 a small group of local people formed the Tarbat Old Parish Trust to try to save the original parish church (abandoned in 1946) from ruin. Abandoned churches in Scotland are quite common and a viable alternative use for the building had to be found before there was any possibility of funding. In 1999 the Museum opened with much of the space dedicated to the display of finds from the site along with the interpretation of the monastic settlement and its workshops.
