http://www.firstgradecrittercafe.blogspot.com/2015/08/book-study-teaching-reading-in-small.html

Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Book Study: "Teaching Reading in Small Groups". Readers, I have been bitten by the Book Study worm this summer and it feels FANTASTIC! One very special recommendation popped up at the iTeach First conference last month in Vegas. Her name: Jennifer Serravallo. Strategic teaching in small groups and delivering top-notch conferring tips to our youngest of readers. Sounds awesome, doesn't it! I found myself nodding yes, and shouting out, "Oh Yeah! Match the individual reader. Chapt...

Friday, July 17, 2015. Book Study: No More Phonics and Spelling Worksheets! One fun piece of that was incorporating her Daily Systematic Sequential Phonics They Use. Tim presented me with a fresh and fun new way of reaching MORE students with daily word study. I began to incorporate daily phonics poetry into my lessons.

Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Celebrating Ruby Bridges with a little giveaway! Yesterday we observed Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday and classrooms are buzzing this week with. I Have A Dream" sentiments. I absolutely love having conversations with my little first graders about diversity and how we can change the world.one small step at a time. I most definitely want to keep the momentum going this month with a strong focus on fairness, equality, and courage so I created a new unit. As my role model. Click...

First Grade with a Cherry on Top: July 2013

http://firstgradewithacherryontop.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Helper of the Day. Do you want to know the easiest way in the world to determine classroom helpers and jobs? It's called helper of the day. That's right, one student for the whole day is the line leader and my helper for any and everything that I need during the day. {For example: passing out papers, running to the office, taking a book back to a teacher that I borrowed it from, grabbing something we forgot off the playground.etc}. Labels: helper of the day. Monday, July 29, 2013.

Monday, September 29, 2014. Today they loved math journal time. Last Friday (after school) Mrs. Jones and I revamped and ramped up our math time. We love teaching and enjoy improving what we do. And when we find a great blogpost or TpT product we get really excited. That's what happened on Friday. Mrs. Jones showed me this post. And we got to thinking about interactive math journals. Today I modeled and talked through a journal entry. And then the kids had a try. Let me say- teacher heaven. Is there anyt...

http://leadingandreading.blogspot.com/2013/04/linking-up.html

Sunday, April 7, 2013. Happy Sunday Friends,. I have been MIA lately. Last Sunday we had our family leave. We've had visitors since February 15th! While I'm glad to get back to my regular schedule with just the hubby and my son, I do miss my family already! Needless to say, time with family has kept me from getting on the computer at night. So, I'm getting back into the swing of things by joining up with a Linky Party. I love Latoya from Flying Into First and am excited to join up with her. I wish I woul...

Classroom Management Ideas - Apples and ABC's

http://www.applesandabcs.com/2015/08/classroom-management-ideas.html

With the beginning of the school year right around the corner, I wanted to share some classroom management ideas that I use with my students. These simple ideas really do help maintain order and set expectations for the kids (aka everyone is less stressed and can enjoy learning! The first idea is having classroom rules posted up for the students to see and review. These posters are great visuals to display in the room to teach the rules, remind the rules, and to improve behavior. :). That it was challeng...

I have used this for years in my classroom and my students seem to always enjoy it. It's easy to put together and fairly cheap to make. To make Spaghetti Spelling you will need:. 5 Sheets of red felt. Cream colored yarn (You can use white, but the cream colored looks closer to spaghetti). A gallon Ziploc bag. My last idea is anoth...

First Grade with a Cherry on Top: May 2013

http://firstgradewithacherryontop.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 23, 2013. Motivating Our Students.{with a little teacher music video}! With a little help from my hubby writing the lyrics to Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA", I grabbed the school video camera and stalked all the teachers at my school during their planning. I am so blessed to work in a school with such fun people, because everyone was on board! The kids loved seeing their teachers on video acting silly, and it was so great seeing all of us work together for our students. Labels: End of Year.
