First Grade Garden: June 2015

http://www.firstgradegarden.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 June 2015. I can't believe it is almost the first of July! Props to Farley for getting this month's Currently up and running before the first of the month! I can't believe I am joining up so early. Woo hoo! GO link up your Currently at Oh Boy 4th Grade. Listening to Pretty Little Liars. Anyone else watch this show? I binge watched everything they had on Netflix, and then had to catch up so I could watch the new shows! I love it, but I do hope they wrap up the mystery soon! Needing a foot rub!

First Grade Garden: July 2015

http://www.firstgradegarden.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Monday, 27 July 2015. Daily Schedule - Calendar and Math Stretch. This summer I read the book Guided Math by Laney Sammons. Chapter 3 was all about using Math Warm-Ups. A quote that stuck out to me was, "Participating in a variety of brief. Mathematical activities during the first 20-30 minutes of the day leads students to make subtle mental shifts into the world of mathematical awareness and learning." (Laney Sammons also has a book called Daily Math Stretches for K-2. So I got to working on monthly set...

First Grade Garden: February 2015

http://www.firstgradegarden.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 24 February 2015. Which do you prefer in a Grade 1 classroom- desks or tables? I have had both and I have to say that I prefer tables all the way. Desks just accumulate too much clutter. Also, I always had my desks in groups and I hate how they always moved and shifted and never stayed in the same spot! I find tables promote more cooperation and community. The only issue I find with tables is storage. Last year I tried a few different things to help with that. I plan to use sticky velcro dots to...

First Grade Garden: October Currently, Snow, and Listen to Reading

http://www.firstgradegarden.com/2012/10/october-currently-snow-and-listen-to.html

Thursday, 4 October 2012. October Currently, Snow, and Listen to Reading. I feel like such a bad blogger. So many things to do, never enough time, right? This school year has been kicking my butt! I can't seem to get caught up with anything. It's hard being in someone else's classroom, too. I'm such an organizational freak and I just can't get everything organized. There's just too much stuff everywhere! Can't wait to find a permanent spot. Cross my fingers for next year! Report cards next month :S Eek!

First Grade Garden: May 2015

http://www.firstgradegarden.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 May 2015. Running a Guided Math Lesson. Yesterday I wrote a post about how I plan and manage my guided reading lessons. You can read about that {here}. Today's post is about how I do my guided math lessons. It's very similar. I run a modified version of Daily 5 for literacy and a similar version for math. While other students are doing various literacy or math activities, I am meeting with small groups (usually no more than 4 or 5) and teaching a math lesson. I keep each group's lesson materia...

Hanging Out With Mrs. Strout: August 2015

http://hangingoutwithmrsstrout.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 9, 2015. Don't You Just Love Rattlesnake Eggs? I don't know about you, but I am NOT a fan of snakes or snake eggs! I don't even like to look at pictures of snakes. Have you seen these before? They are so much fun! You give them to someone and tell them to open them but to be very careful. Of course, when they go to open them they make a noise and vibration. This is what is inside. Wellthe next morning they all came back to school chatting about who they had tricked and how scared they were...

Hanging Out With Mrs. Strout: Words, Words, Words!

http://hangingoutwithmrsstrout.blogspot.com/2016/10/words-words-words.html

Saturday, October 29, 2016. Words, Words, Words! When I'm teaching a new phoneme I like to start with an anchor chart. I like my kiddos to build it with me and then they can use it and refer back to it over and over again. I often follow up an anchor chart with a booklet where they can sort words or see words in lots of different fonts. Sometimes my kiddos work in small groups and unscramble sentences that have the words we are working on. They love this! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Div align="ce...

Saturday, July 30, 2011. Do you use data notebooks? So picture this.it is the end of the year and my former intern, teaching buddy, and trusted friend came to me about a training she just went to. AND what did I do? Now, it is known and I will admit it is not one of my favorite traits but I am somewhat of a control freak. Thinking back I. Could have handled this situation better.
