Fish in Motion

Friday, November 9, 2012. I just finished a really long post explaining my internal conflicts around Remembrance Day. Basically I'm a pacifist who is moved to tears by the sacrifices made for our country by soldiers. I'm someone who thinks fighting is almost never the solution, but that occasionally it is - and the enormous challenge is to figure out, in the moment, which kind of situation we face. Thank you to those who stood up and fought for us. Thank you to those who would not fight but still sto...

Fish in Motion: June 2012

http://fishinmotion.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 27, 2012. My eldest was born on June 26 and from an early age loved to pick the strawberries that ripened at the time of his birthday. For his very first birthday, we actually invited friends and had a strawberry-themed soiree. Picking strawberries has always had a child theme in my lfie: I recall being a child and being left with my sister in a patch to pick while my mom picked up our other sister. I remember that it was hot work. Sunday, June 24, 2012. All Greek to me. As a writer, I in...

Fish in Motion: July 2012

http://fishinmotion.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 6, 2012. I know, I know. I've neglected you like I usually forget my Twitter account. The thing is that it's summertime and the kids are home, but the work hasn't stopped. If anything, it has actually increased. Don't get me wrong: I love it, the whole thing. The work, the family, the fun. Oh, and the novel that is springing forth from my head these days. It just adds up to a lot. Which leaves me little space for you, blog-o-mine. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Back Yard Olympics.

Fish in Motion: February 2012

http://fishinmotion.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 28, 2012. I must first of all confess that I read. Gone with the Wind. In one epic night and spent one of the happiest days of my life reading the final. Book from cover to cover. So I've been known to binge before on books. Sunday morning, though, I was feeling it. I had been out the night before to a book launch for local author Carrie Snyder's book The Juliet Stories. What if I just don't like it? What if it's riddled with typos (book, not baby)? So the fear of quality wasn't there&#...

Fish in Motion: May 2012

http://fishinmotion.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 27, 2012. A Single Red Poppy in the Garden. There's a single red poppy in my garden. Yesterday it was a ball of green and this morning, the colour shone forth - red as shameless lipstick. It has not yet opened, but by tomorrow night, the petals will likely be strewn about on the ground, spent. But tonight, it's there, brilliant and singular and vivid. Which is good because this week has not exactly been that sort of week. It hasn't been a bad week in any way, but it hasn't been brilliant.

meet me under the willow tree: My Jack is back

http://www.meetmeunderthewillowtree.com/2012/02/my-jack-is-back.html

Monday, February 27, 2012. My Jack is back. Today my Jack came back. Later, I was sitting on the couch with Joey and glanced over at my bookshelf. I was reminded of something that I had read the week I found out I was pregnant with Joey. It was from a book by Henri Nouwen entitled 'Reaching Out' and there was a small section on being hospitable towards children that I promised I would never forget:. What should we have done to prevent this behavoiur? What gifts does he have to offer? I LOVE this. Pro...

meet me under the willow tree: like the crowds

http://www.meetmeunderthewillowtree.com/2012/04/like-crowds.html

Sunday, April 1, 2012. Like the crowds,. We come with all our hopes and fears,. Our almost forgotten dreams,. To catch a glimpse of you. Like the crowds,. With our heads lifted high,. There's a bit of blue sky. Could you be the one. We've been waiting for? Like the crowds,. We sense your presence. And feel your eyes on us. And lay down our desires. In hopes you'll be the one. Like the crowds,. We rejoice in who. We hope you will be. And our faith creates a path. A place for you to move.

meet me under the willow tree: Day Ten - Muffins & Coffee, Rehab & Lent

http://www.meetmeunderthewillowtree.com/2014/03/day-ten-muffins-coffee-rehab-lent.html

Saturday, March 15, 2014. Day Ten - Muffins and Coffee, Rehab and Lent. Today I showed up with muffins and coffee for a group of people who were helping a friend move in the downtown area. To my dismay they had finished cleaning out her apartment and had left already. In the past I had gone downtown to hand out hot drinks to anyone who might need one, so I immediately thought that maybe the hot coffees could be used for some good. Where do I see things that need to be made right - in you and in others?

meet me under the willow tree: Day One

http://www.meetmeunderthewillowtree.com/2014/03/day-one.html

Thursday, March 6, 2014. I'm entering the season of Lent this year tired, exhausted actually. Also, I'm somewhat confused about where I am and where I'm going. These last few years have been a season none like any other, that's for sure. I feel like I have been in the desert. Weary, dry, weak and even imagining sources of water that have only disappointed. Here is some space for you to show me just how much I need You.". This is a beginning - a beginning to Lent, a beginning to a journey, the beginning o...

meet me under the willow tree: The new house & renos so far

http://www.meetmeunderthewillowtree.com/2011/12/new-house-renos-so-far.html

Thursday, December 1, 2011. The new house and renos so far. This past week we got the keys to our new place! We arrived Thursday night to start working on the place. I didn't do much except ponder paint colours, tidy up a bit, assemble some cabinets and probably breath in too much dust! We didn't get as much done as we had hoped, but the work is continuing and we have so many great friends to thank for this! The cutest little owl door knocker ever! For some reason I didn't notice it until we got the keys!

Fish In My Hair

Fish In My Hair. Monday, March 21, 2011. I recently had to make another visit to The Land That Fashion Forgot. I was scheduled for an oophorectomy, which is a complicated medical term that means, "removal of the oophs." Knowing I would have to again wear the lovely post-operative footwear, this time I went with a retro '60's theme, sporting flared yoga pants and Birkenstocks. Turns out there's a reason the mantra went, "Peace, love, and flower power," and not, "Peace, love, and compression hose.". And th...
