The statistical data below was gathered to give insight to the probability of hurricanes striking this region. There has been 38 hurricanes to strike within 60 miles of this region in the past 130 years. That averages one hurricane for every 3.5 years. The average size of a Category 2 hurricane is about 200 miles across. Hurricane force winds extend out from the center about 50 miles.
