This week, I had the pleasure to dine at Parkside, a local Austin restaurant, that showed me that American bistro fare is clearly leaving its mark on the food industry. La Jeune Cuisinière: February 2010

http://jeunecuisiniere.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 28, 2010. Live, Love, Eat. When preparing for a test that I was sure I was going to fail, I decided to rest my weary brain and eyes at the student union. My favorite spot was still available. These super plush chairs nestled right in the sun. The sun warms you as the air conditioning cools your face just enough to make sleep possible. So many times have I been in the position where a flavor, dish, or experience completely overwhelms me to the point of rambling. This feeling of pure b...

La Jeune Cuisinière: A List of Love

http://jeunecuisiniere.blogspot.com/2010/08/list-of-love.html

Saturday, August 14, 2010. A List of Love. Things I love About Paris:. All time stops for food. Smoking is still acceptable. A coffee is really an espresso. Drinking at 10am is acceptable. Cheese is eaten with a fork and knife. Stores close when they feel like it. Good wine is cheap. Fried eggs are considered condiments. At sunset everything looks gold. Finding your neighborhood boulangerie, fromagerie, boucherie, et pâtisserie. When these shops know you by name and order. The Métro, yes the Métro.

La Jeune Cuisinière: Kerby Lane Cafe 1/21/11

http://jeunecuisiniere.blogspot.com/2011/02/kerby-lane-cafe-12111.html

Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Kerby Lane Cafe 1/21/11. Everyone in here is a pale shade of drunk. Food is what people turn to when they need to feel better. When they need to sober up. Its food that cures these adolescent souls. When the party is over and all that is coursing through their veins is alcohol, American youth turn to food. Grease, fat, dairy, sweets, salt. it all makes the body feel better. Why? Is this an American phenomenon? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). This is why you're fat.

La Jeune Cuisinière: Sincerely

http://jeunecuisiniere.blogspot.com/2011/09/sincerely.html

Tuesday, September 13, 2011. I am no writer. I am not trying to influence any of my readers into thinking or feeling the way I do. The only purpose of this is to impart my sincerity when it comes to anything relating to food or beverages. There have been a string of days here that have tested my resolve to just be alive. Whether it is the unrelenting string of 100 plus degree days or whether it has been the horrible aftermaths of my personal relations, one fact remains the same, I can barely breathe.

Saturday, June 26, 2010. My Struggle with the Metric System. Cooking is sorta universal. The use of the Metric system in Europe totally slipped my mind when I went to cook dinner for Richard and I for the first time. I was going to make mac 'n cheese with the fresh cream from the farm and all the cheese I was getting from working at Ford Farm. Then I looked at the measuring utensils and realized they were all in grams, liters, and ounces! No cups, no teaspoons, no pounds to be found! Departing to England...

In the meantime, cut the eggplant into about 1-inch pieces. Place the eggplant pieces in a colander and toss with a teaspoon of salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Do the same with the bell pepper. Sauté them until soft but not mushy and transfer with a slotted spoon to the same bowl as the onions. Next it is time for the eggplant&...

La Jeune Cuisinière: May 2010

http://jeunecuisiniere.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 30, 2010. My First English Food Experience. I booked my reservation at St. John Bread and Wine. Long before my actual visit to London. I knew that this place was the place for me to eat to experience British food. After I watched an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations where Tony traveled to the UK and ate at Fergus Henderson. 8217;s famed restaurant, I knew nothing could stand in my way. Did the American media trick us again into believing other cultures were not what they seemed?

A Few More Anthophagists. Anthophagy: the practice of feeding on flowers (usually—but, apparently, not always—practiced by insects and their larva). What is it about people eating flowers? Ludicrous and savage, people eating flowers look like crazy angels, gently violent. From Katherine Mansfield's flagrant-fragrant short story, "The Carnation":. They taste like fluttering among those huge, strange flower heads on the wall behind her. Read the whole slightly strange story here. From the 1968 film. Well,"...

Food Culture in Ireland

Food Culture in Ireland. Sunday, 3 August 2014. 31 July-1 August) is one of the more obscure traditional festivals in Ireland. It leaves very little trace on our collective unconscious, unlike Samhain. Which continue to be celebrated as Hallowe'en and St. Brigid's Day respectively. Lughnasa is a more mysterious beast altogether. The traditions surrounding the event are recounted in Máire MacNeill's seminal work The Festival of Lughnasa. Named after Lugh, a Celtic god of the Tuatha Dé Danann. I won't divu...
