Food in the Media. What's the news on Salmon? Great article in July 2008 Saveur. On Salmon. I'd like to post a picture here, but I'm not sure what the copy right issues are! In a nut shell, the articles explain that farmed Salmon may be getting better and better in order to compete with wild salmon. And, the article introduces a new (or new to me, anyway) source of Alaskan Salmon. It's not just from Copper River anymore. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (well, maybe that's in Canada? Cheese, Glorious Cheese!

Food in the Media. Va de Vie, May 14, 2009. The wine though was good and I enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the warm evening. I would return for wine, but not for the food. HOpefully, this was just a bad night. Harry's Bar, April 10, 2009. New Delhi restaurant,. April 9, 2009. Town Hall, April 10, 2009. In fact, I wish the layer of butterscotch over the chocolate were larger! Bourbon and Branch, II, April 10, 2009. Food in the Media. I've got two tools that I'm just loving: my microplane and my lemon squeezer. It's so nice to have at least a few tools that do what their supposed to do and do it well! Lemon squeezer is from Whole Foods (I noticed one on the Williams and Sonoma website like the one I'm using). Microplane is from Williams and Sonoma. I was skeptical at first. Why would a kitchen need a blender that big or expensive? Martha Stewart Popsicle Holders (purchased at Macy's). These unusually shaped holders ...

Food in the Media. Commentary on French Laundry meal. This menu was for ten people. There was enough food, but it was not excessive (and we made it through 8 bottles of the wine). Goat cheese cups were easy, relatively. We made some errors on the Parmesan cups first time around because of how quickly you have to bend the parmesan into the cup (we used small muffin tins to make twenty cups) before it hardens. Everyone loved these, but two per person was enough (they are rich). Tomato tart was a favorite&#...

Discovering Local Food Culture in North America. Thursday, March 19, 2009. I'm so excited for this trip! It is going to be so much fun! I love road trips and spending time with my family and eating yummy food! I am really looking forward to going to New York! Eating cows in Canada (a mad idea? What's the local/organic movement doing up there? Croissants and Macaroons in Montreal. I've run across great food magazines (Food For Thought) for example that comes out of Alberta that I'd never heard of. I've be...

Discovering Local Food Culture in North America. Monday, August 3, 2009. Onyx Hotel, Boston. During our stay, there was major construction happening outside the hotel which made loading and unloading the cars a pain, but other than that it wasn’t a big deal. The hotel’s location is very central but it’s on this one block street that isn’t particularly nice (not unsafe though). We were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to. Discovering Local Food Culture in North America. Friday, July 31, 2009. Cafe of India, Cambridge. Cafe of India, Cambridge. They brought fresh Naan to the table. The food was very mildly spiced, not very greasy but not particularly flavorful. They have a lot of wait staff but no one even asked us if we wanted drinks, so we had to flag them down. I didn’t notice any frozen carrots. The tandoori chicken was very moist and kesh ate a lot of that. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Books we are reading.

Discovering Local Food Culture in North America. Friday, July 31, 2009. Blue Hill Stone Barns, NY. Blue Hill at Stone Barns. After we selected the menu we wanted, the waitress asked if there were any allergies, did any of us not want raw fish? And from our responses to these questions, the menu is designed. And it was served with some garlic sausage and a bit of tomato and some slice of white thing which we aren't sure what it was. Fourth, we had another fish course. This was halibut with some shellf...

Discovering Local Food Culture in North America. Thursday, July 30, 2009. Antico Forno, Boston. The menu items included lots of pastas with a variety of toppings from alfredo to Bolognese (about $12), a wide range of salads and pizzas. We ordered a pretty broad selection and they were accommodating of our special needs: Lauren just wanted butter on her pasta and one of the other boys had allergies and needed a particular pasta as well. From dirt to dish and from spoon to mouth. On Ramping, Off Ramping: Just give me ramps.
