Franklin's Virtues: February 2008
http://franklinsvirtues.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Genius without education is like silver in the mine.". Tuesday, February 26, 2008. I Ran Three Miles! Okay, okay, not all at once. And I guess I didn't run it all either. But last week I did manage to get on the treadmill three times, running at or over a mile each time. Well, walking, jogging and running, actually. Anyway, I love how I feel after exercise. The only problem is, when do you find time with kids around? How am I going to continue this though? Links to this post. Thursday, February 07, 2008.

http://homeschoolingphysicist.blogspot.com/2009/09/teaching-science-harry-potter-way.html
I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Monday, September 7, 2009. Teaching Science the Harry Potter Way. Seeing the most recent Harry Potter movie raised an interesting question: why do so many kids find the idea of attending Hogwarts so enticing? After all, J. K. Rowling makes clear that the students at Hogwarts actually study hard. And, notoriously, American kids do not like hard schoolwork. Who would have thought, before the late ninete...

I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Sunday, October 11, 2009. Homeschool Math by Rotating Wheat Thins Boxes. I have a theory that if you cannot explain an idea in some form to a bright, attentive six-year-old, then that may be a sign that you do not really get the idea yourself. So, here is a very simple math exploration that can be done even with a homeschooled six-year-old and that in fact connects to some quite advanced mathematics.

The Homeschooling Physicist: Election-Day Prediction: Romney With A Substantial Win (I Think)

I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Election-Day Prediction: Romney With A Substantial Win (I Think). A Romney win: 53 to 47 in the popular vote; 295 to 243 in the Electoral College. I give Romney the obvious states plus Colorado, Ohio, New Hampshire, Iowa, and Wisconsin. I do wish Romney the best, if he wins, just as I sincerely wished Obama the best when he won. Enthusiasm. Both the polls and the anecdot...

The Homeschooling Physicist: How We Homeschool: Some Nitty-Gritty Details
http://homeschoolingphysicist.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-we-homeschool-some-nitty-gritty.html
I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Thursday, October 1, 2009. A friend who is seriously considering homeschooling recently asked how we actually do our homeschooling, on a day-by-day basis. But I’ll try here to be a bit more coherent for the sake of our friend and anyone else interested in the general approach we try to take to our homeschooling. We homeschool seven days a week, twelve months a year. If we spend a couple hours one day ...

The Homeschooling Physicist: Why We Are Homeschooling
http://homeschoolingphysicist.blogspot.com/2009/09/why-we-are-homeschooling.html
I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Thursday, September 3, 2009. Why We Are Homeschooling. Anyone familiar with the homeschooling universe knows of the wide diversity of “homeschooling philosophies” – e.g., the classical trivium, unschooling, Charlotte Mason, and, most of all, “eclectic.”. Indeed, bright kids, as we all know, are disparaged as “nerds.”. Our own kids have been consistently testing at twice their grade level or higher (in...
