French Roundabouts: Nodding Donkey

http://frenchroundabouts-suej.blogspot.com/2010/02/nodding-donkey.html

Miniature works of municipal art. February 01, 2010. Location: The Landes, D43 between Ychoux and Parentis-en-Born. I think that's what this mechanical model is called. For oil? A roundabout on the D43 on the way to Parentis-en-Born and Biscarrosse, beyond Ychoux. There is an un-numbered turning for heavy lorries off the roundabout towards Lue and Labouheyre to the south. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Unfortunately some of the artwork is ephemeral and may not still be there to see. And now the House.

French Roundabouts: Castelmoron Outskirts

http://frenchroundabouts-suej.blogspot.com/2008/08/castelmoron-outskirts.html

Miniature works of municipal art. August 12, 2008. Location: Lot and Garonne, D13 heading north out of Castelmoron-sur-Lot towards Miramont; junction with D225 towards St Étienne-de-Fougères and Casseneuil. This is another roundabout where the two sides are completely different. Coming out of Castelmoron and heading towards Miramont, you are faced with a waterfall. Coming from Miramont towards Castelmoron, the view is of the emblem of Castelmoron etched on stone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

French Roundabouts: D2 out of Bordeaux

http://frenchroundabouts-suej.blogspot.com/2008/09/d2-out-of-bordeaux.html

Miniature works of municipal art. September 08, 2008. D2 out of Bordeaux. Location: Gironde, D2 heading north out of Bordeaux, junction with D211, crossroads to Macau (east) and Paloumey (west). At the start of the D2 going north out of Bordeaux (which is the road that passes many of the great Bordeaux vineyards and chateaux) there is a wonderful roundabout where each "side" tells a story. The roundabout sits at the D2 junction with the D211 to Macau on the mouth of the Garonne. And now the House.

French Roundabouts: Tennis Club, Tonneins

http://frenchroundabouts-suej.blogspot.com/2008/08/tennis-club-tonneins.html

Miniature works of municipal art. August 21, 2008. Tennis Club, Tonneins. Location: Tonneins, Lot and Garonne, tennis club, behind Leclerc, off N113. There is a tiny roundabout in front of the Tonneins tennis club, with an old-fashioned lamp post in the middle of delicate flowers and grasses. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Here are some of my favourites, at present mainly in the Lot and Garonne, but over time to be extended to all France. And now the House. What to do with our Old Walls?

French Roundabouts: Aeroplane

http://frenchroundabouts-suej.blogspot.com/2010/02/aeroplane.html

Miniature works of municipal art. February 01, 2010. Location: The Landes, D652, between Biscarrosse and Parentis-en Born. The aerodrome de Biscarrosse-Parentis lies between the D652 and the large Lac de Biscarrosse et Parentis in the Landes. On the outskirts of Biscarrosse, on the D652 heading towards Parentis-en-Born, at a turning into the Zone Industrial de Montagnotte, there is this splendid model of a twin propeller aeroplane. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). And now the House.

And now the House: The Kitchen is in

http://andnowthehouse.blogspot.com/2010/05/kitchen-is-in.html

And now the House. Monday, May 10, 2010. The Kitchen is in. Started to write this in April. Forgot to post it.). The kitchen is in, looking sleek and modern against our off-white freshly painted walls and the beautifully laid floor tiles. Cupboards with shelves that slide out, either side of the big fridge freezer. At last I shall know what we've got in store without having to scrabble at the back of the top shelf while balancing on a ladder. In French. I've no idea what it is in English. We have finishe...

And now the House: Floor Plans

http://andnowthehouse.blogspot.com/2009/12/floor-plans.html

And now the House. Monday, December 28, 2009. Lynne, who dips into this blog from time to time, asked if I could do a simple floor plan. Certainly the house layout is confusing and even living here it took us time to work out how all the rooms fitted together. This is what the house looks like at present, put together over years from an old farmhouse and outside barns. People who know us park in front of the garage, walk past the bedroom, come along the terrace and into the kitchen. A third stage will en...

Woodland Fay: The Plum of Life - Sweeter the Older it Grows

http://woodlandfay.blogspot.com/2009/07/plum-of-life.html

Musings of a disordered but endlessly enthusiastic kind. Wine, food, art, gardening, France, Italy and home again giggerty gig. Friday, 17 July 2009. The Plum of Life - Sweeter the Older it Grows. Tonight we consoled ourselves with fine wine and dining, fiddling as Paris burns perhaps (coincidently, Dan ‘s combo is called Nero, I must suggest this as an upcoming album title! This recipe uses everything fresh and seasonal from the garden. Duck Legs with Drunken Plums. Tablespoon of olive oil. Above plum '...

And now the House: Wet, Wet, Wet

http://andnowthehouse.blogspot.com/2010/02/wet-wet-wet.html

And now the House. Monday, February 22, 2010. Wet, Wet, Wet. Saturday afternoon and yet again we've had an emergency water company engineer on site; this time up to his elbows in the manhole where the water meter sits. I thought about getting my camera and taking a picture of his bottom in the air, but it seemed rude to wander off and leave him when he was baling ice cold water as fast as he could so he could get at the problem. So we carried buckets and made small talk in French and English. We're seein...

And now the House: What a Week

http://andnowthehouse.blogspot.com/2010/04/what-week.html

And now the House. Saturday, April 17, 2010. Monsieur G and his workmen, lorries, vans and diggers completely took over the drive for most of the week as the ". Went in, the pipework was laid and then a large ". Sand filter bed) and a drain were dug out on the other side of the drive in what used to be Serge's field. Friends told us they had planned to drop by but hurriedly drove on when they saw the controlled chaos. Fosse septique goes in. Bac à sable being dug. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Woodland Fay: Tea and No Sympathy

http://woodlandfay.blogspot.com/2009/07/tea-and-no-sympathy.html

Musings of a disordered but endlessly enthusiastic kind. Wine, food, art, gardening, France, Italy and home again giggerty gig. Tuesday, 21 July 2009. Tea and No Sympathy. As always, this is the time for artists to open their studios or grab an exhibition space for their annual show. One of our group has built himself a cleverly designed studio at the bottom of his garden but it’s certainly no garden shed. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Beautiful sketches Fay - and I love your idea of collaging the Japanese pat...

Woodland Fay: Tuscan Plum Tart and Other Miscellaneous Plum Madness

http://woodlandfay.blogspot.com/2009/07/tuscan-plum-tart-and-other.html

Musings of a disordered but endlessly enthusiastic kind. Wine, food, art, gardening, France, Italy and home again giggerty gig. Thursday, 30 July 2009. Tuscan Plum Tart and Other Miscellaneous Plum Madness. Tuscan Plum Tart (taken from Darina Allan’s Ballymaloe Cookery Course). 4-5 fl oz water (I use Plum Wine but water is fine). 5 oz soft butter. 5 oz vanilla sugar (homemade is cheaper and easy) or plain sugar will happily do. 8 oz self-raising flour. French Routes

A journey of discovery in a not-so-foreign country. Sunday, 19 August 2012. There was a bit of a car charade the morning. After we returned from Morzine,. When instead of our hire car parked in the parking space behind our place, Michael found the Tuesday markets selling African bracelets. Supermarket. Surprisingly, Michael actually knew where he meant (from past explorations by bus). Luckily, a bus came along at exactly the right time and he was able to catch it a few stops to the Hotel de Police.
