Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Thursday, January 19, 2006. Black Democrats Lie for Hillary. In an earlier post, I criticized New York Senator Hillary Clinton for saying Republican Leaders have run the House "like a plantation.". Her remarks were made in front of a mostly black audience on Martin Luther King day, and surely found some resonance. New York Rep. Gregory Meeks, another black Democrat, also defended Clinton. And as a side note to Democratic party lea...

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Monday, June 05, 2006. Buy a DVD Today! In my last post ( Celebrities and Urban Farms. I wondered whether the celebs protesting down on the farm really cared about the farmers. After all, they have the resources to solve the problem on their own, but won't. Instead, they're down there, day in and day out, demanding government intervention in order to overthrow the land owners' property rights. Posted by Luis at 12:42 PM.

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Saturday, December 31, 2005. President's Men Seek to Plug Yet Another Leak. The Justice Department has opened an investigation to see who leaked the existence of the President's secret spying program to the New York Times. In yet another lie by this administration, White House spokesman Trent Duffy told reporters that the decision to conduct the investigation was made by the department, and not requested by the White House. Accord...

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Friday, July 28, 2006. A Question for Our City Council. I just read yet another editorial blasting the Long Beach City Council's excess spending on pensions for City employees. Our local media is especially cranky of late because the Council recently threw in a "golden handshake" for our outgoing Mayor. By now, government employees have far better benefits and pensions than the average working person. If they think they deserve th...

Freshly Considered: September 2006

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Tuesday, September 05, 2006. That was my reaction to the headline Bush reminds Americans U.S. is at war. The article went on to cite the President's presentation of evidence of the terrorist threat. Apparently, he figures we're already forgetting 9/11. Once again, the President just doesn't get it. It ISN'T that we think the terrorist threat isn't real. It's that he's not fighting it in a credible way. Edited on 9/8/06 to add:.

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Tuesday, March 07, 2006. Feeling a Little Better. For all the frustration we feel about domestic politics, we could always have it worse: we could be a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan. No comfy couch, no home cooked meals, no privacy, and thousands of miles from loved ones. They've got it tough. No, it won't be enough to win the war. I know I felt better having made the donation. Give it a try, I'll bet you will too.

Freshly Considered: May 2006

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Celebrities and Urban Farms. In downtown Los Angeles, there is an "Urban Farm." The 14 acre site is managed by the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, which has divided it into 360 plots, which in turn are managed by various people without much in the way of cash on hand. As the deadline for evicting the farmers nears, enter celebrity protesters (Joan Baez, Daryl Hannah, et. al.). Or for the publicity? He propo...

Commentary of a political moderate on a quest for truth and middle ground. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Civil War in Iraq and The Oscars. The ongoing news coverage of Iraq's descent into chaos is depressing. One network reported 1800 deaths in the last week. As many predict civil war, the President says "stay the course.". In my last blog posting, I asked that very question, but in a more broad way: why are there no credible alternatives to the President's policies? Under his leadership, we've racked up a...
