Friar Tuck – a Monk 36 Trawler. May 30, 2016. Little Alligator River anchorage (NC) – 29May16. Yesterday we went to downtown Belhaven to check out what was happening on a Memorial Day weekend. Not much. But it did liven up after dark. That is a cruisers midnight, i.e. 9 pm. Sleeping well I got up at 0600 and it was day light. What a difference it makes across the Eastern Time Zone where we are accustomed to a later sunrise on the western time zone reach. Little Alligator River anchorage. A little wind at...

Friar Tuck – a Monk 36 Trawler. June 11, 2016. Washington, DC – Day 2: 09June16. As before, I think the photos will tell the story:. 8220;Out of the Mountain of Despair, a Stone of Hope”…Martin Luther King, Jr. has this and other quotations engraved in the stone walls and monument. The only U.S. President to be elected to four terms in office. FDR died early in his fourth term. This memorial is divided into four outdoor rooms each focusing on a term of office. We walked back to Papa’s boat and it was nap time. Well almost. At least Rhys and Juliana rested on the aft cabin bed with Nana and Stephanie, while Eli and I navigated home. Friar Tuck – a Monk 36 Trawler. May 31, 2016. Elizabeth City / Turners Cut – 30May16. Working their crab pots. Fog limited our visibility to about 1 mile but gradually improved giving us more sight distance. I had our running lights ON for safety’s sake, similar to driving with your lights on when it’s raining. Wayne, aboard Cocomo and leading the way, called us on the radio and said, “crab pots! 8221; Great. It was like a mine field with no end. No crabs were injured on this crossing. Father’s Day...

Adagio: July 2015
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. 7/31/15 Cleveland to Geneva on the Lake State Park. Shortly before entering the harbor at Geneva, our rudder angle sensor seemed to stop working. Ron took it off "navigate" and seemed to gain some manual control. The hard part was entering the harbor with beamy seas and limited steering. Once in the marina, the steering seemed to return to normal. Links to this post. 7/30/15 Second day in Cleveland. We should have made our own decision, because it was not good. I ordered a pork...

Sunday, August 2, 2015. 8/1/15 Geneva on the Lake, OH to Erie, PA. I said, "Could you give me that number? Dock hand, "I have no idea what it is". Adagio: 8/10/15 Buffalo Launch Club to Brockport
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015/08/81015-buffalo-launch-club-to-brockport.html
Friday, August 14, 2015. 8/10/15 Buffalo Launch Club to Brockport. We reluctantly left BLC, one of our favorite all time marinas, and headed for the Erie Canal. We purchased a 10 day pass ($37.50) and traveled almost 70 miles to Brockport. There are many small towns, bridges and locks on the Erie Canal. Many of the fixed bridges are very low…the lowest is 14.5 feet and you must be able to get under this bridge. That keeps many boats from enjoying this part of the Canal. I’ll go and look.”. These small to...
Adagio: 8/4/15 Still in Erie
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015/08/8415-still-in-erie.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. 8/4/15 Still in Erie. Today was a work day. Ron washed the boat which was covered with bugs, and I did the laundry. Three meals meant lots of cooking, but it was nice to eat on board. We are expecting flat seas on Thursday, so tomorrow will be our last day here. We plan to make the 100 mile trip to Buffalo if conditions are good. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adagio: 8/12/15 Fairport to Newark, NY

Friday, August 14, 2015. 8/12/15 Fairport to Newark, NY. The temp today was cool and we had some rain. Newark was recommended to us by several people, for good reason. This has been the friendliest reception we've had. The dockmaster came out to greet us and invited us to the office when it was convenient for us. They have free dockage along the town wall and free laundry, nice restrooms and showers in the dock master’s office building. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). We started the "Great Loop" when...
Adagio: 7/30/15 Second day in Cleveland
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015/07/73015-second-day-in-cleveland.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. 7/30/15 Second day in Cleveland. We had hoped to leave today, but there were small craft advisories, so we opted to visit the nearby Great Lakes Science Museum. This is a hands on adventure, primarily designed for kids. We attended a lecture on the Apollo missions and that was very interesting. Two hours at this museum was plenty for us. We contacted Uber for a ride to a local restaurant (Green HouseTavern on 4th street) which had been recommended by one of the boaters. We started ...
Adagio: 8/13/15 Newark, NY to Seneca Falls, NY
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015/08/81315-newark-ny-to-seneca-falls-ny.html
Friday, August 14, 2015. 8/13/15 Newark, NY to Seneca Falls, NY. We started a little later than usual. The weather was cool and the sky, clear. We encountered several locks today, but there was no wait at any of them since the lockmasters called ahead and told the next lock to prepare. One of the locks we went through was in Lyons, NY (peppermint capital of the world) where my grandfather was born. This town is known as the birthplace for women’s suffrage and the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Adagio is ...
Adagio: 8/2/15 Erie, PA
http://tugadagio.blogspot.com/2015/08/8215-erie-pa.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. 8/2/15 Erie, PA. We walked to St. Patrick Church for 10:30 services. This church is 200 years old and is magnificent! There are many stained glass windows, a pipe organ, and Stations of the Cross made of actual carvings rather than plaques on the walls. There were very few restaurants in the vicinity, so we ended up at McDonalds for lunchtime salads. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to the journies of Adagio!
