No Ordinary Light: May 2010
http://noordinarylight.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
We are no ordinary lights. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. My last few days in India have not been what I had hoped. I suppose that a last hurrah at the Golden Temple and parties with friends in Amritsar just wasn’t in the cards. Thanks, India, I think. You have a way of cleaning the poisons out of people. (Although, the reverse is also true, for you always have a way of putting poisons into people.) When I was studying with Ustaad-ji one day, he looked at me and said “Ramdesh Kaur! I’ll clean her up! One day i...

No Ordinary Light: March 2010
http://noordinarylight.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
We are no ordinary lights. Tuesday, March 30, 2010. I admit it… I freaked out. I woke up with about sixty red bumps on my feet and all I could think was that some bizarre Indian parasite had entered into the souls of my feet while walking around barefoot in a temple. That or leprosy. So I went to the health clinic near the ashram, where the doctor promptly dismissed me as having mosquito bites. Oops. What you need is sun prana! I learned ayurveda from a 300 year old man in a cave! 8221; or “Here! He expl...

No Ordinary Light: August 2010
http://noordinarylight.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
We are no ordinary lights. Thursday, August 19, 2010. Recently, my father had surgery. He'd been in a lot of pain before the surgery and upon waking up, although he was in additional pain, said that he felt a kind of internal release, as if a long held grimace had left him. Now my dad isn't really the kind of man who gets involved in yoga and chanting. You're more likely to see him watching Fox News than a kirtan concert and more likely to hear him listening to the Rolling Stones than Snatam Kaur. 3HO Ku...

No Ordinary Light: January 2010

We are no ordinary lights. Monday, January 11, 2010. The Path of Karma Yoga. It is in India. To ourselves, to another person, to God? In Rishikesh, I learned that there are many ways to serve God, but more importantly, I learned that I can light my soul on fire with joy by one simple act…to look at another living being with the eyes of God and so merge with the divine.
