Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. I’ve recently started working full-time at the community health clinic just east of here. it is a fabulous job–i’ve been at it for 8 months, fresh out of nursing school, actually–but just accepted a full-time gig about two weeks ago. it has been a whirlwind and i am slowly (faster, faster! The ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender and so incredibly easy and thoughtless. try them. you shan’t be sad you did. One more taste, please. Adapted by me from food network. And th...

Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. In my NEW MUG, thanks to the kind gals at java moose. That got me through at 10am. i get so hungry at work. so i indulged in a banana, oatmeal, yogurt concoction top with blueberries i picked last summer (they are so tiny and so yummy and so worth the effort) and black walnuts. it was delightful. Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. It came to my attention sometime after the allusive turn of the year that i have too much yarn. too much mess as a result of the yarn. and a husband who grimaces each time he enters the room where the mess as a result of the yarn is kept…. Tragic. but, to organize and use all of the yarn in my blue suitcase…that i can do. or at least i will say i can for the sake of motivation. A girl needs a goal, doesn’t she? For the sake of my marriage…i am resolute to resol...

Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. Of friends and muffins. It seems my life revolves around weekends. this is, of course, something my younger self hoped to avoid when i got older. there was nothing more vile and pathetic, in my 17 year old mind, then a late 20something living for their weekend. sigh. relent. while i do not dread weekdays, i do adore my weekends and yes, i admit, look forward to them. This particular weekend we had dear friends from ely, minnesota. I knew, once my friends and hubby aw...

Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. We have snow, albeit only a couple of inches, but snow nonetheless. nearly all the leaves have tumbled from the trees and have adopted their new role of blanket to the earth. soon, they will begin rotting, becoming then, new soil and the promised catalyst of spring gardens to come. isn’t it good that all things have a purpose all of the time? 4 Responses to “green, indeed.”. 10/19/2009 at 4:40 pm. 10/20/2009 at 4:11 pm. Escaping wolves. picking blueberries. Just a little note (because i’m feeling lazy) to say all is well. We have been eating very good food like this poached egg with greens on toast topped with a very tasty orange dill sauce. Andy is almost finished with the greenhouse. I have been amazed at him during this process. i never doubted it, but now i really know: i married an incredibly talented and dedicated man. (who just happens to be madly in love with me.). The Frugal Optimist

Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Month in Review- December. December was filled with family and fun. It also brings us into month 10 of the Frugal Optimist. Our short term savings was diminished with Thanksgiving and Christmas, and somewhere in the last two months we stopped saving for the "unexpected" costs. I got the flu the week before Christmas and I've never paid attention to how much getting sick can cost! Holy crap, I am glad that it was just the flu and thankful that Nick and I are both healthy! Dear Barnstaple…Up your game. February 14, 2013. Yesterday I had a rather damp morning alone in Barnstaple. Seriously guys you need to up your game. Empty shops, leaking roof in Green Lanes which means a game of dodge the buckets, car parks with flooded parking bays, wheelchair unfriendly kerbs and cobbles. Something needs to be done. Council, nag the property owners to lower rents for 6 months for starter businesses and/or pop up shops. Buck your ideas up guys! The joys of college. November 23, 2012.

FRUGALO | It's a lifestyle.

It's a lifestyle. Justine’s College Tale. June 21, 2011. Here are some lessons from living as a college student. Living like a college student means saving money in every way possible. As a college student, you may have to splurge on items that you NEED but the items that you WANT you have to budget and carefully plan for. As a fashion buff, I may not be able to purchase all the trendy outfits I want but I don’t mind shopping for vintage/used attire at thrift stores and on sites like Ebay. June 15, 2011.
