Building a House In Japan. February 1, 2014. There are a lot of exciting things going on at the house. First of all, the toilets have been installed. Tankless on the first floor with all the bells and whistles. Standard issue on the second floor, nothing but a heated seat up there. All of the recessed lighting is in on both floors, and almost all of the other fixtures are in, too. This is the pendant light in the first floor toilet. This is the semi-Japanesey, lantern-type light for the tatami room.

Building a House In Japan. March 4, 2014. But enough talking — pictures are probably what most of you are waiting for. So here you go. Kitchen with tiny little fridge. If it ain’t broke…. Time to buy a cooler oven and toaster I guess. Entertainment zone — I need to clean up those wires, I know. Overview — not as cramped as I had feared, and at least there’s plenty of seating with the dining table there. Kid’s play room. I was hoping to put the gym in here but it didn’t work out (ha ha). 3 Be prepared to ...

Building a House In Japan. February 4, 2014. Blistering action over at the house, and it’s all immensely exciting to see. Blistering action on this blog as it’s my main mode of deflecting my excitement/impatience as we count down to moving in. Today the tile/stone dudes were at work along with the cabinet maker and the door hanger. There’s a nursery rhyme in there somewhere. Here’s a picture with the island in place, waiting for its maple top and the rest of the drawers and shelves. Here’s a close ...
Floors! | Building a House In Japan
https://gaijinhouse.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/floors
Building a House In Japan. February 13, 2014. I couldn’t be happier with how the floors turned out, especially the oak on the first floor. This flooring was a bit underwhelming before, but the stain as made the grain pop out and it looks beautiful. The stairs look great as well. On the second floor, the pine is still not totally dry. We’ve been instructed to stay away on Saturday as hordes of workers will descend upon the house to finish up a bunch of odds and ends. On the 20th we’re meet...In that vein ...

Back on the HORSE…. January 22, 2014. 8230;and i don’t mean heroine. That’s right, it’s the year of the horse and that means (for no reason) I’m gonna actually start updating this thing again. I actually wrote a rambling post a week or so ago complaining about the world at large but I shortly returned that to “draft” status and it’ll probably never see the light of day again. If you caught it in that short window is was out there in the wild, good on ya. Documentation for posterity as it were. Anyway, I&...

Miiiii miiiii mii mmmgggggggg. July 16, 2014. Well, looky there. I’m done with classes until August 29th baby! I know many designers don’t like the idea of these crowd-sourced contests or designing on spec but as a new designer looking to get my foot in the door it’d be a great chance to have my designs selected so that I can put that in my portfolio or on my resume. I also took this terrible picture using my laptop’s camera to give an idea of what it looks like while I’m wearing it. July 2, 2014. Ar: pr...

March 22, 2013. March 26, 2013. I started writing this last week. So, I’m finally ready to say a bit about the interview thing that happened some time in February (? I’m very excited for that, nervous about everything too. 18 days of work left here. 2 more classes tonight. Alright. There’s been movement. March 13, 2013. So, last we spoke, I was on my way to take my driver’s test I think. Think it was the first time? Can’t recall. I ended up going to the licensing center a total of 3 times, firs...I was a...

Midsummer | The Soy Bean
https://thesoybean.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/midsummer
The garden is on autopilot now that we’ve had plentiful rain along with lots of hot and sunny days. I wish the weeding was on autopilot too, but I haven’t yet reached that level of forest garden zen. Here are a bunch of pictures from around the yard. It looks a bit chaotic, but almost everything growing there has some beneficial purpose. The Jerusalem artichokes, on the other hand, on going bonkers! Ultimately I hope to create a little more of a green screen to provide privacy. Even now though you...

Archive for May, 2013. Think I’ll Pack It In…. It’s pretty rare these days that I get a chance to get out and explore, wandering around taking pictures with little sense of time constraint. I lucked out today though, having a random day off while the rest of my family had work/school, so I jumped in the car and I knew right where I wanted to go. Back again soon with pictures of my adorable children. Enjoy the respite! May 31, 2013 Categories: Uncategorized. Here’s a run down of what I planted:. 1 seed pa...

GO HAWKS! – no airplay
https://noairplay.wordpress.com/2014/02/03/go-hawks
February 3, 2014. So, 2nd to last day here at work. Pretty boring day because all I’ve got to do is finish up 2 classes’ interview tests. But, it’s so hard to concentrate, the Hawks are playing in the Super Bowl right now and everyone in the world is watching the game right now and I have to avoid them all! My only line to the outside world is Line, and I have to have that open in case the wife goes into labor, which could really be at any moment. What a time to change jobs right? Damn I want to go home!

Gaijin Housewife in Japan
Gaijin Housewife in Japan. This blog deals with the being a housewife and part time English teacher in Japan. Being a housewife is not an easy job, but in Japan it is an art form. I'll be chronicling my struggle with my complete dislike of housework along with plenty of posts about life here in semi-rural Japan, my battles with the local giant insects, my latest triumphs in the kitchen and some Ikebana or Japanese flower arrangement. Friday, 29 August 2014. Hugo's Birth Story Part 3. Links to this post.
