On the banks of Shyok river, you will find a 106 feet tall golden statue of Maitreya Buddha sitting just below the Diskit Monastery. The statue is beautifully decorated and a must view statue in Ladakh. It also offers majestic and grandest view of whole Nubra valley from the statue and monastery. In old days, Jains and Buddhists monks were occupying these caves. Many Buddhists relics were found inside the caves and can be viewed at Museum in Anantapur. Archaeological survey of India also found remnants of vessels of Pre-Buddhist era and has dated the remnants of vessels found in the caves to 4500 BC. City: Belum Village, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.

It is where the rest of my family is settled. In a way you can say that I 'belong to' Hubli. It is also the gateway to one of the most visited UNESCO Heritage sites of India - The ruins of Hampi. It takes precisely 3 hours for us to drive down from Hubli to Hospet (where Hampi is). But we never did even once in 36 years. We are the natives!
