Sailing Vanessa: November 2014
http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Sunday, November 30, 2014. Way too much wind today to go solo:. So I get to use part of the day to do modifications. During the trials some things solicited for modification:. Jib sheets need clamcleats, over the coaming, like Spartina. Jib sheets get caught behind the outer cleats I placed on the deck. These cleats need to be moved inward to prevent this. The mizzen sheet cleat needs a fairlead so that I don't loose the sheet overboard. Saturday, November 29, 2014.

http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Http:/ welsfordsundownerbuild.blogspot.com/. Sunday, December 14, 2014. More than just building a boat. Building the Pathfinder has given me much more personal development than I anticipated. Yes, I have learnt many new skills how to build a boat. Yes, a boat is a vessel to the spiritual freedom of the ocean. Yes, sailing the boat I built with my own two hands gives a lot more satisfaction than sailing a bought sailboat. All mods work pe...

Sailing Vanessa: May 2015
http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Friday, May 29, 2015. The jib sheets angled too steep into the cam cleats. I chose to install blocks such that the sheet ran smoothly and straight into the cam cleats. Drilled two 2 cm holes, also in the 1cm ply backplate. Then glued backplate and filled hole with thickened epoxy. Sand, fair and paint. Then drill holes for bolts:. Installed bolts with large washers. This will not go anywhere. Monday, May 18, 2015. After a few weeks of 30 knot daily winds things fin...

http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2015/05/plans-arrived.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Friday, May 29, 2015. I am excited that the plans for the Pelegrin have arrived. Space and time are not here yet. So the start of the build will have to wait. No problem. Luckily I have a wonderful boat I can take out anytime I want. As a man needs various tools for various jobs, I like the idea of having two boats. One for sporty sailing and one for cruising out a but further. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fish n Chips Aruba style. Sail Aruba part 2. Clockwi...

Sailing Vanessa: July 2015
http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Sunday, July 5, 2015. Seagull center seat fit. Fitted the port inner gunwale after making the aft knees from pitch pine 1 inch thick stock. I used carton to make a simple template for them. To keep the gunwale in its place i used the new Ryobi nailer tool. Claps for the pressure in combination of a nail or two to prevent moving. That nailer saves me a lot of time and rework. Excellent tool advise from JW. Port gunwale glued and tacked. Center seat dry fit. Day 7 I ...

Sailing Vanessa: Better sail
http://pathfinderriksbuild.blogspot.com/2015/05/better-sail.html
Pathfinder (designed by John Welsford). Monday, May 18, 2015. After a few weeks of 30 knot daily winds things finally quieted down a bit back to 20 knots. I have been asking around what setup would be better to sail with and my sailmaker Stuart Hopkins of Dabbler Sails. I was at a favorite hangout place very quickly with the main. She powers the boat much better than the jib and mizzen does. I think she may also run much higher because the sail's better profile compared to the jib. Sail Aruba part 2.
