Day to Day in e-Learning. Where are we and what’s next? Middot; by Bob R-S. Middot; in Uncategorized. Middot; Leave a comment. Although Christmas does not mark the end of a semester, it feels like semester one is drawing to an end and although our trial of the Panopto lecture capture system is to run for the whole academic year, I will need to report on progress at the end of this semester as that is when strategic planning decisions are made for the following academic year. Our network speed might be qu...

Day to Day in e-Learning. Middot; by Bob R-S. Middot; in Accessibility. Middot; 1 Comment. The arguments for not using PDFs are normally based on ignorance. For example, people say you cannot change the colour of the text in a PDF and that students cannot edit them. This article shows you how to do all those things in PDFs that you thought you couldn’t do and ex-plains why PDFs are generally more accessible. Programs: slightly techie but essential info to understand the issue. Here you can change the pro...

They can get the Recorder but they must go to the Panopto Media server to get it. 8221;) even by going to the time as indicated. It’s all just one long screencast and video with no searchable text. Day to Day in e-Learning. Middot; by Bob R-S. Middot; in Lecture Capture. Middot; Leave a comment. As part of our lecture capture trial we have encouraged a couple of academics to use Panopto to record student presentations. This is what happened. We also produced simple instructions so that the academics could operate Panopto. Basically all they had to do was:. Open PowerPoint in presenting mode,. ALT-Tab to cycle through to Panopto (always open). Name the recording with student’s username. The bulbs in...

As part of our drive to improve the accessibility of our learning materials this year, we have been captioning videos with Amara and also sourcing videos on Box of Broadcasts, which are invariably already captioned (though sometimes poorly it has to be admitted). Occasionally we outsource captioning to an external company and recently they got in […]. Middot; by Bob R-S. We were inte...

Day to Day in e-Learning. Student Presentations Part 2 (Panopto). Middot; by Bob R-S. Middot; in Lecture Capture. Middot; Leave a comment. This is a follow up post. I said in the previous post that what we had learnt from recording the first round of student presentations meant that we would make the following changes:. Use a separate mic. Keep the room lights on. 1 and #2 did result in better recordings, however, #3 resulted in an unforeseen debacle. A student giving her presentation off camera. Another...

Day to Day in e-Learning. Middot; by Bob R-S. Middot; in Assessment. Middot; Leave a comment. We were interested to know whether we could use our Qwizdom audience response handsets for students to input their answers to paper-based multiple choice tests that were given in examination halls. The impetus for this was to have the papers marked both quickly and by machine. Multiple Choice (choose one from four) to test knowledge. Multiple Choice (choose one from four) to test comprehension / interpretation.
