We do not serve evening meals at Gilpin Mill because we are so well served by surrounding pubs - five within a 5-10 minute drive. All these fill up very quickly at the weekends and we strongly recommend booking in advance. We are very happy to do this for you. Former Michelin Pub of the Year. Highly recommended, it has consistently served our guests well. A good friendly local's pub with a locally sourced menu served in the restaurant and the bar. Sit in the sun outside even at 7pm. All the bedrooms are south facing with views out over the garden to the fields beyond - a very quiet and peaceful setting. The comfortable six foot wide beds are the same in each room, and together with duck down duvets, down pillows and quality pressed cotton bed linen make for a great nights sleep. All our rooms are en-suite and fitted out to the very highest standard - walk in pressurised showers, under floor heating and soaps and lotions from 'The Bath House' in Sedbergh.

A sunny, south facing garden ideal for tranquil afternoon teas overlooking the millpond, watching the fish rise. A terrace, for breakfast outside, on a warm, sunny, summer morning. Gilpin Mill has been a mill since 1500 using the water power firstly to clean and thicken wool as a fulling mill and latterly, in the 19th century as a bobbin mill turning wooden bobbins for the Lancashire cotton industry. In its heyday the water stored in the millpond would have powered the 17ft water wheel that would have in turn driven the four wood turning lathes in the mill. As far as we know the milldam was washed away about hundred years ago and the mill fell into disuse and it collapsed in 1975.

Friday, August 7, 2015. In early June, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Capri. It was harder than expected but I think it usually is. We have so many wonderful memories with our little Capri and definitely miss her constant companionship. One of our favorite memories of Capri is from the 2006 Turkey Trot in Dallas. Matt has, ever since, had this picture on his side of the bed of our little family. Zach still asks for her periodically but it's setting in. Sweet sweet girl. Monday, August 3, 2015.
