While involved in renovations of some of the buildings of Liverpool’s Abercromby Square, I came across various interesting architectural peculiarities, folk history of the Square, and odd facts here and there. The family seem to have been masters of many trades, and Edward himself was a judge, Edwardian theatre critic, even an occasional composer, which tracking down brother Hubert, he seems to have been a fairly successful neurologist in Ohio. Saturday, May 17, 2008. Over the last couple of weeks, I have had a real run of finishing things, which is nice when you have a baby. I have finished. Another baby present for Sarah's new cousin Caleb. Reading that National Geographic that has been in the toliet since Sarah was born. Using the beer fridge for the season (so we turned it off to save electricity). Wearing maternity clothes. thanks to a nasty case of gastro and a 5 month old determined to suck her entire body weight out of me every day.

The History of Abercromby Square. Apologies for lack of posts, have been very busy week for a week off, though a very enjoyable week it has been. The Spence book turning up more interesting nuggets. Captain Semmes, John Sliddell and J.M.Mason will be familiar names to anyone reading histories of the American Civil War and Britain, but I hadn't realised their social connections to Spence, or the fact that Mason was god-father to one of Spence's daughters! It really is a goldmine of interesting anecdotes.
