Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: January 2011
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. On Thursday 20th Beth and I drove down from Dunedin to Bluff via Invercargill. Bluff is the southernmost port in NZ and the ferry point to Stewart Island where Sorley went last year. After 22 degree temps in Wellington it was relatively cool in Bluff. We stayed the night in Invercargill with a Shetland couple (relatives of the man whose biography I am to write). To this waterfall at Purakaunui. Next day we were on to Dunedin an...

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: September 2010
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Monday, 20 September 2010. Garden walls and gable walls. Before the severe gales came and blew away the leaves the north west corner of the garden looked like this. I decided that the wall was too low, needed repair and raising to the height of the other part of the north wall by the terrace. The outside side of the wall with part of it rebuilt and heightened. I put in the vertical stone to hold the bridge. Laughton and Patricia Johnston. Muckle Bousta,...

Thoughts from the Sead: August 2010
http://thoughtsfromthesead.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thoughts from the Sead. Saturday, August 21, 2010. Jumping Jacks are the Hardest Thing. We've been back at school for almost 2 weeks and summer already seems like a distant memory. Josie just started 2nd grade and I began my 23rd year of teaching and we're both loving it! We aren't thrilled about the early start to our routine or the August Heat but things are going well, especially since our classrooms have working AC at the moment! Josie- -you have GOT to start flushing the toilet without any reminders!

Thoughts from the Sead: Giving Thanks
http://thoughtsfromthesead.blogspot.com/2010/11/giving-thanks.html
Thoughts from the Sead. Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Mom, they are so dirty.". The older man asked if I had any food in my car that I could share with them and Josie was still whispering questions, "Can't they go home and get food? What's wrong with them? I left there with tears in my eyes as the older man held the door and said, "Thank you and bless you and your daughter. I promise to pay it forward to someone else as soon as I'm able.". Isn't it too hot to live outside right now? In the end, she told ...

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: October 2010
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Saturday, 30 October 2010. The hole in the wall. Archie, Andrew and David have now been a week at the job. A nice tidy bedroom to start with. This is Andrew - a bit camera shy - putting in the shuttering prior to filling in with concrete. The hole was initially rather large for comfort, even though it was shored up with scaffolding, but at this stage (below) Andrew and David have rebuilt the sides around the frame which will be the window.

Thoughts from the Sead. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Cat Lrning (In Honor of National Day on Writing). I was reminded that today is National Day on Writing and my good Mid-Western German-Catholic Work Ethic that I was raised to value won't allow me to slumber tonight unless I post. When cats are born there eyes are clossed. Cats are very smart. They are very good hiders. The mom cats have babys. The dad cats take cear of them. The dogs chashs the cats. I love cats. Dogs are smart just like cat. So impres...

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: February 2011
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Saturday, 26 February 2011. Spring . maybe? Mum today at Wastview. It's almost impossible to catch her smiling or laughing as she switches so quickly to 'not being amused'! But she is in very good form. Apart from a cold and for the first time in all our years I caught it from her! She's remarkable really and seemingly content in her world. It was almost a spring morning today . but I'm not fooled! Laughton and Patricia Johnston. Spring . maybe?
