Breakfast For The Block: November 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Thursday, November 12, 2009. Do you feel me coming close? The new Tegan and Sara album, " Sainthood. I have always enjoyed the duo, but none of its output has immediately grabbed me like this album has. They jump around from genre to genre, never losing a step in the process. This release finds two artists working at the top of their game and is one of the year's best. I wrote a quick review. For the newspaper's website as well. Tuesday, November 10, 2009. The series' landscape c...

Breakfast For The Block: August 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Monday, August 31, 2009. I don't know why I still get so excited for each Hov release. The man is still undoubtedly my favorite rapper but each new release misses out on that feeling that this is an epic event record. Even with Hov's rhymes getting increasingly boring I still eagerly await new LPs. Even though there will not be anymore moments of sure joy and amazement that came the first time I heard "The Black Album" or "The Blueprint". The Pharrell track is straight garbage...

Breakfast For The Block: January 2010
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Thursday, January 28, 2010. I want you back. On my computer for a while and have just gave it a proper listen. Local Natives' Gorilla Manor. Plays like Copeland attempting to reach the Stereogum crowd. The percussion is full of the floor tom strikes like so much indie rock since "Purple Bottle" dropped, but the band's drums are less immediate. The band grabs from a number of modern influences ( All Hour Cymbals,. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Tramps like us, baby we were born to die.

Breakfast For The Block: September 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Friday, September 25, 2009. I've tried to be tough. His review of the debut album from Girls. Hits on all the strong points of the record. I may not be as in love as he seems to be but it is quite the strong outing. Even though "Laura" jacks the "Sweet Caroline" melody, which in turn is now stuck in my head. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Dig a deep hole. Call it a guilty pleasure. Call it teen girl angst. I really don't care. I know haters are going to hate, but whatever. All of t...

Breakfast For The Block: February 2010
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Tuesday, February 16, 2010. When the cafe doors exploded. Always get excited about new Ted Leo material. The man's most recent album, The Brutalist Bricks. Is more immediate than his last outing and overall much stronger. The songs take a beefier, punk leaning with Leo taking it down a few notches here and there as well. He just seems like the coolest dude as well. Sunday, February 14, 2010. I feel just like a man. Saturday, February 13, 2010. Ima put your lights out. Pleasure P,...

Breakfast For The Block: July 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Sunday, July 26, 2009. When I was younger I used to buy up used CD's all the time. My dad and I would spend hours in record shops, scouring bins for some ace finds. I remember getting home and popping my new tunes into my stereo and pulling out the insert to peruse the lyrics while listening. Most of the stuff I was buying was Fat/Epitaph punk or ska so these lyrics were TERRIBLY important. I would do this so as not to miss anything, get the whole experience. Sunday, July 19, 2009.

Breakfast For The Block: March 2010
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. I wanna believe but i'm outta control. After gaining some buzz last summer with its first DFA produced tracks, Free Energy's debut, Stuck On Nothing. Dropped on 3/9 via Astralwerks. The album is an ode to the big 70s guitars and catchy choruses of T. Rex and Cheap Trick. The band has crafted a debut, which is in debt to these groups but sounds super fresh and perfectly timed for the sunshiney weather around the corner. Give a listen below.

Breakfast For The Block: June 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Monday, June 22, 2009. Rip a beat to pieces. Two hugely anticipated mixtapes dropped over the weekend, the first being Wale's "Back to the Feature". Has been pushed back a few times, and the finished form is a pretty impressive product, but not really because of Wale. Perhaps he is saving some real heat rock for his debut, but not much here is outstanding wordplay. Maybe that is why he consistently speaks at the end and beginning of tracks about how he is a "different" rapper.

Breakfast For The Block: April 2009
http://breakfastfortheblock.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Breakfast For The Block. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Finally a film set in boston. In all seriousness, this was a solid piece of work. Especially as a debut from first time director Brian Goodman. The whole Boston crime world has been tread so heavily in movies over the past few years, but this film does not make the city its focal point. Ruffalo just takes over this movie. I don't understand how this guy doesn't get more work. Whatever he's in he kills. What doesnt kill you. Monday, April 20, 2009. Advent...
