곰섬은 태안군 안면도 입구에 위치해 있으며, 행정구역으로는 충청남도 태안군 남면에 속해 있다. 곰섬은 실제 섬은 아니고 해변가에서 바다를 향해 뻗어 있는 작은 지형을 말한다. 해안가가 곰처럼 생겼다고 전해져오면서 곰섬으로 불리웠다. 동네 이름인 웅도 마을은 곰섬에 있는 마을이라 하여 붙여진 지명이다. 타원형으로 이루어진 작은 해변끝에 곰섬이 위치해 있고 민가는 손에 꼽을 정도로 한적한 곳이었다. 최근엔 민가에서 숙박업을 겸하기도 하고 신축된 펜션도 몇 곳 있어 한적한 바다를 찾는 여행객들의 발길이 종종 이어지고 있다. 해안가에 붙어있는 소나무 숲엔 오토갬핑장이 있는데, 비수기에는 주말에만 운영을 한다. 곰섬에는 슈퍼등 편의 시설이 없으므로 필요한 물건은 미리 준비하는 것이 좋고 차로 10분이내에 있는 인근 항구등에서 싱싱한 해산물을 싼 값에 구입할 수 있다. 서해안고속도로 홍성IC(96번 국도-안면도 방면) 원청사거리(77번 국도-안면도 방면) 곰섬. 충청남도 태안군 남면 원청리 156-4.
