Ingy Plants - Zone 7B: May 2011

Ingy Plants - Zone 7B. Gardening in South Seattle, one sprout at a time. Saturday, May 14, 2011. Spring starts in May? The seeds have started sprouting up in the raised beds. I love planting beans. Since they are so easy to grow, you get an instant reward for just popping their large seed in the ground. They don't need much of anything, and reward you with endless beans at harvest time. Speaking of the chickens, they LOVE their wheatgrass:. And what about their tastebuds? Chrissy getting her snack on.

But I just included a link to this semi-comatose blog in a little mini-essay on WNY garden walks/tours I wrote for my day job. So I figure anyone who ends up here through that deserves to see something new. Which is merely steering you right back here. Post that shamed me int...

Thursday, April 30, 2009. A legacy of leaves. On the aftermath of my father's recent death. First, here's a recent view of his backyard. Bear in mind he didn't live at home for the last year of his life, which accounts for a little of the overgrown-jungle aesthetic, but even in his heyday Dad was into letting things grow a bit wild:. And not some poisonous ornamental variety. Fingers crossed! That request, and my own desire to get some more clippings of his mammoth "shrimp plant" ( Justicia brandegeana.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010. I thought sure I had taken pictures of this poor dear during the two-plus years it was thriving. Alas, this stark snapshot of its dismal end is all I can find:.
