Elvis Sightings: Special Needs Vouchers in Florida: "Like a Perverse Science Experiment"
http://elvis-sightings.blogspot.com/2011/07/special-needs-vouchers-in-florida-like.html
Autism Insurance (WI, 2009-2012). Thursday, July 14, 2011. Special Needs Vouchers in Florida: "Like a Perverse Science Experiment". Here is how a recent article in the Miami New Times. Described Florida's McKay Special Needs Scholarship program:. It's like a perverse science experiment, using disabled school kids as lab rats. Except that description isn't fair to science experiments, in the absence of an attempt to create a hypothesis capable of being tested, or to collect meaningful data. To provide any...

Elvis Sightings: Joy's iPad, iPad's Joys
http://elvis-sightings.blogspot.com/2012/05/joys-ipad-ipads-joys.html
Autism Insurance (WI, 2009-2012). Sunday, May 6, 2012. Joy's iPad, iPad's Joys. When I first heard what Apple had named their new tablet-technology, back when it came out a couple of years ago, I chortled along with the wags who made Kotex jokes. What company in their right mind would give their product a name that sounded as if it belonged in the "that-time-of-the-month" aisle? Where we could record a message or word and Joy could push the right picture to make the device "say" that thing. We even s...

Elvis Sightings: January 2013
http://elvis-sightings.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Autism Insurance (WI, 2009-2012). Thursday, January 24, 2013. Just a little comment / report in an early-morning meeting with Joy's teachers. At issue was Joy's progress interacting with online books. At the start of the year, she had just ONE online book that she wanted to go to over and over. Then she broadened her range, then it exploded to a whole series of books that she was interested in doing. Just lately, she seems to have lost interest again. Shoot, that's what the name of this blog is all about!

M.A.G.: Macaroni and Cheese - Updated
http://myaspergersgirl.blogspot.com/2009/12/gfcf-macaroni-and-cheese.html
Living without gluten, casein, soy, eggs and peanuts. Living with ASD and ADHD. Life is good! Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Macaroni and Cheese - Updated. One of the hardest things to give up after the family went gluten, casein and soy free was my mom's macaroni and cheese. Over the years I tried several different recipes, some fancier than others (4 cheese, anyone? My mom's macaroni and cheese is still superb even after all the changes. 2 cups dry GF (I like Tinkyada Brown Rice Shells or Rotini). Whisk ...

Elvis Sightings: An Honor
http://elvis-sightings.blogspot.com/2013/03/an-honor.html
Autism Insurance (WI, 2009-2012). Saturday, March 23, 2013. Wisconsin state representative Dan LeMahieu (R-Cascade) called my daughter, speaking before a gathering of school board members and public school administrators in Madison last week. " A burden on our schools. This class of person is always a burden. Upon the public. Persons of this class are idle and often mischievous, and are dead weights upon the material prosperity of the state. They are worse than useless. Every such person is l...At least ...

School zone common sense | The Tangled Web I Weave
https://sapphirelizard.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/school-zone-common-sense
The Tangled Web I Weave. School zone common sense. January 10, 2012. I’ve been dropping Tommy off at school for 2 1/2 years now, so I’ve seen quite a bit. I know that when it rains there are more parents driving and they don’t all know the parking lot procedures. I know that when it is cold, the number of cars goes up as well. I have come to expect these things. Does this not seem like common sense even without a rule? Do they think that they are exempt from the rule? Another rule states that children ar...

The Tangled Web I Weave. Author Archives: Sapphire Lizard. Random things I learned today. February 27, 2012. After all the craziness with the kids’ schedule over the past few weeks, it was so nice to finally have the house to myself again today. It was the first “normal” day we’ve had around here for a while. On my normal, uneventful day I learned:. Carbs are my weakness! I love that today was so utterly uneventful that I had time to notice, ponder and smile about these little things. February 21, 2012.

Day Sixty-Seven: From training wheels to two wheels -- how to teach your kid to ride a bike without breaking your back
http://daysixtyseven.blogspot.com/2010/08/from-training-wheels-to-two-wheels-how.html
Monday, August 16, 2010. From training wheels to two wheels - how to teach your kid to ride a bike without breaking your back. One of my favorite people, KAL of Autism Twins. So, here is a brief run-down of things you should do and think about:. 1) Make sure that you have a properly sized bike for your child. 2) Remove the pedals and the crank arms from the bike. The next step is to teach the child to use his or her feet in a gliding pattern that move them forward . Also, it always helps to demonstrate r...
