Africa Calling: December 2013
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Time is passing by quickly – however each day is slow and full. Rich. I spent some time showing Asia, one of the Good Hope directors, how to use Excel. She caught on quickly and soon became enamoured with the power of the tool - and the range of font colours! These kids are teaching me much and as I expected, I am taking more than I am leaving. I am falling in love with this magical place and resilient people. Director of Education Khadija Salim takes a Sprite break. 8221; I ...

Africa Calling: Reaching Out
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/2014/07/reaching-out.html
Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Had an email from Betsy, the volunteer from Chicago who now lives in Moshi. She had some disturbing news. Hamidu's school sponsor suddenly pulled out. I could hear the desperation in her words. Can any of you find him a sponsor? Since this is a fast one year course the entire amount of money needs to come now, because there is a school fee payment schedule and there several field trips that happen on "unscheduled" times that need immediate prepayment throughout the year. Follow the...

Africa Calling: August 2010
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 5, 2010. We were an oddly pieced together group who seemed to have an easy bond. Conversation was bubbling constantly, enthusiasm overflowing like foam on a hastily poured beer. It was as though we needed one another for nothing else than to have assurances that we were indeed experiencing something special. What is your name? Cameron's dad was presented with a goat as a gift from the community and suddenly the little herd of goats that wandered the Bogani camp made sense. The children w...

Africa Calling: November 2014
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Jill sent skipping ropes with me last week and the kids loved them. I had to actually pry one out of the hands of one of the directors! Posted by Lyn Brown. Links to this post. Sunday, November 2, 2014. Proud, Loud and Women Power. And intimidating. The discussion about intimidating lead to discussing bullying (all tenses of course). They used both words in sentences until I begged for mercy. Do you eat them? Oliver walked me over to her new house that is tucked in a laneway be...

Africa Calling: A Day of Surprises
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/2014/10/a-day-of-surprises.html
Wednesday, October 29, 2014. A Day of Surprises. While Jill and I were talking in the hallway, a door opened and Spela appeared - a woman from Slovenia and fellow volunteer from last year. We all cheered exclaiming the coincidence and good fortune. It did seem somewhat serendipitous! Posted by Lyn Brown. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Africa Calling: Packing List
http://onourwaytoafrica.blogspot.com/p/packing-list.html
Packing List for Tanzania 2013. November is the short rainy season with hot, humid temperatures, but cooler nights out on the land. I am listing every item that (right now) is slotted for packing. I may pare it down when it comes to stuffing it into the suitcase. But for now it is stacked neatly in a laundry basket. When I return I will let you know how it all worked out. I'll find out if I packed the right stuff. In my large sized rolling duffel:. 4 short sleeved collared tops (polo blouses). Passport/y...
