Proving that modern board and card games are an important part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Current favourite dice game: King of Tokyo. I hesitated to buy it last year and now I don't know why - it's King of The Hill meets Yahtzee with a bunch of crazy super-powers thrown in. Too, too much fun. Oh, and the art design is spectacular. Here's a bunch of pictures with shouting captions. The King and Gigazaur! BEST BOX INSERT EVAR! Card sleeves are AWESOME! But what do I know?

Well, there is an even bigger class of train games referred to as the 18XX series. It's a testament to the greatness of this ...

Usually remedying the problem just takes a trip to the drug store for some toothpaste, or relying on the room’s alarm clock rather than my favorite travel version. But last weekend when I unpacked at the hip and wonderful Hotel Modera. Instead of the shopping, ...

Proving that modern board and card games are an important part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Saturday, March 30, 2013. Buried in the sands of time. Will we still be playing board games in a few millenia? Check out this article about game designer Jason Rohrer. Who won a design contest after burying his board game in the Nevada desert. Seriously. Sadly, no one but a computer has actually played the game or seen in it in its entirety which seems like a waste. It definitely makes it impossible to pred...

Proving that modern board and card games are an important part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Thursday, November 7, 2013. Well here's a job I'd love to do! This British museum curator studies the history of board games:. My only objection is Irving Finkel's comment on his favourite game Monopoly that "the idea of renting out a square was the last 'momentous' innovation in board games." Right. This article was from 2008 so I hope he's done a bit more research since then. Thanks for the tip, Matt!

Proving that modern board and card games are an important part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Monday, April 21, 2014. A short review of Splendor. I'm always looking for simplicity in games, especially the lighter ones. Much like the mathematical proofs I studied in the yesteryears of my graduate work, the simplest were always the most elegant and the best. This to me is what makes quickie games like For Sale. So wonderful - rules in under a minute but some definite thought involvement. Splendor. I reali...

Board games have definitely hit the mainstream and our little corner of Ontario is seeing it as well (must be since I moved here.) Two board game spots are opening and my co-blogger Daryl and good friend Ray are both going to be serving at one of them: Games on Tap. The place is licensed. AWE-SOME!
