6th Street Bridge: Review: Adcom GFT-555 tuner
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2015/03/review-adcom-gft-555-tuner.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Friday, March 13, 2015. Review: Adcom GFT-555 tuner. Together they make a handsome pair with black metalwork, red LEDs, and matching dials. Such a setup would have been common for an entry-level audiophile of the early 1990s. Inputs are for separate AM and FM antennas, while the output is a single pair of RCA jacks. Digital tuning between station is using tap-a tap-a buttons, and there are also buttons for presets and whatnot. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

6th Street Bridge: March 2014
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Review: Nagaoka MP-110 phono cartridge. One brand, however, begin to stick out, Nagaoka. They offer several models ranging from the $80 MP-100 to the $655 MP-500. Since this is a budget rig, I decided on the MP-110 with its strong 5mV output, a reputation for tracking and low noise, and the replaceable stylus. The cartridge came in a funky little UFO-shaped container along with screws and even a little screwdriver. French Coldwave act Little Nemo. In sho...

6th Street Bridge: Review: McIntosh MC2100 power amplifier
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2014/09/review-mcintosh-mc2100-power-amplifier.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Thursday, September 25, 2014. Review: McIntosh MC2100 power amplifier. As I already mentioned in the previous post, I've sold off my previous system, retaining only the UREI 813A. S like power I thought it best to replace the Nakimichi receiver. In my upstairs system with something with a little more drive. I remembered how much I liked my departed McIntosh MC-250. Or Gary Numan's Splinter. Which has a (non-linear? Turntable and Nagaoka MP-110. And perhaps the use of an Adcom pr...

6th Street Bridge: Review: Quicksilver full function preamplifier
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2012/06/review-quicksilver-full-function.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Thursday, June 14, 2012. Review: Quicksilver full function preamplifier. Front controls are fairly standard though a little dated: No remote here! Rear panel is the usual assortment of nice gold-plated RCA jacks and a grounding post for the phono stage. Power cord is captive. Fuse Holder holds a 1A unit. AC receptacles are a nice throwback to the days when the user would power up his amp and sources with one flick of the on button. Okay, enough introductions - how does it sound?

6th Street Bridge: Review: Eico HF-60 tube monoblocks
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2012/07/review-eico-hf-60-tube-monoblocks.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Thursday, July 12, 2012. Review: Eico HF-60 tube monoblocks. So what is an EICO HF-60? Another thing to note is the high plate voltage and bias, making the HF-60 run steep Class A. 500VDC on the plates with 65mA means the EL34 output tubes are running 32.5Ws (plate screen) of dissipation, right on the bleeding edge of their maximum rating. If the lights are off, a faint red glow can be seen on the plates(! Which, according to the manual, is considered normal operation! Recorded ...

6th Street Bridge: A visit with the McIntosh MC-250
http://6streetbridge.blogspot.com/2008/10/visit-with-mcintosh-mc-250.html
A Mostly Tube Audio Blog. Friday, October 31, 2008. A visit with the McIntosh MC-250. I've always had an interest in the McIntosh. There certainly is a tube mindset, not only in the schematic, but in the physical execution. Rumor is this amplifier was voiced to sound just the venerable MC-240. The 250 looks much like a MC-240 chassis with solid-state guts and the power devices mounted on top. The autoformer is controversial, here is how Roger Russell explains it -. McIntosh autoformers continued to be us...
