Sunday, April 20, 2014. Towards a Theory of Pseudo-Isidore: Addendum on the Priority of the Hispana. Teaching and other sundry chores generally force my blog into hibernation during the school year. But I’m turning on the lights for just a moment to make a quick point about the Hispana. And its relationship to the A2 recension of Pseudo-Isidore. As the most fundamental Pseudo-Isidorian product. Priority. Nevertheless, it is. Strong evidence that the Hispana. Interpolator worked before A2 was compiled.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Introductory IV: The Varieties of Pseudo-Isidore. Last intro post I swear. Next time we start reading the decretals. This is just to fill you in on the different versions of the forged decretals floating around out there - the different recensions. Friday, August 2, 2013. Towards a Theory of Pseudo-Isidore: Part III. What elements of Pseudo-Isidore does Divinis praeceptis. As I said last time, its text is little more than a patchwork of legal citations, almost all of them apparently drawn from the Collectio Hispana. And one of these citations contains a fairly distinctive textual variant that recurs in the interpolated Hispana. Aka the Autun Hispana,. Or the Hispana Gallica Augustodunensis. Gives you a terminus ante quem. Of 833 for the start.

Archbishop Stephen of Mauritania and all the bishops from the three concilia. Of Africa (here, concilium. None; no consuls, and Damasus's reply (which we'll get to next time) has consuls "ad libitum ficta," as Hinschius puts it. But Damasus was pope from 366-384, so w...
