A little bit of everything from an American expat, her husband, and two kids trying to figure out life in GV, Brazil. How We Got Here. Sunday, March 20, 2016. The Great Immigration Post. Great as in volume, certainly not in excellence. I'm not going to share every detail of our immigration journey because, to be honest, it's personal and long. File a motion to reopen the case and repeal the ban and we would almost certainly win. But the Catch-22 is that the courts are so backed up. There are a lot of thi...

Of course the Olympics are over now - no Zika epidemic, no massive clash between Brazilians/spectators/police. Just one little false robbery story. Pretty good for South America's first Olympics! Farley takes his motorcycle everywhere, as many people do here, but I've been too afraid to learn how to drive it. However, I'm convinced that I co...

A little bit of everything from an American expat, her husband, and two kids trying to figure out life in GV, Brazil. How We Got Here. Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Corruption Culture, No One's Corrupt. A little bit of everything from an American expat, her husband, and two kids trying to figure out life in GV, Brazil. How We Got Here. Wednesday, January 25, 2017. I am reading a book called, "Congratulations, By The Way," by George Saunders. It's one of these reflection books, written by someone old and wise with the intention of passing on lessons to we, the young and green. In it, he writes, "What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness. I was floored. I instantly hated myself. I was...So, n...

Parque Natural Municipal - Part II. Can you spot the monkeys? I'm late to post, again. But I've been reading a lot of Stephen King lately and I get caught up in the plot! I swear, this park is really my favorite place to take the kids. Well maybe it's tied with Pizza Park, a restaurant with a play area like Chuck-E-Cheese (and pizza. There a...

Anyway, after a two hour wait, I finally saw the doctor and was able to get my prescriptions renewed. Excellent, right! The lights were blinding me and the sounds were deafening to me and I was dizzy and nauseous and all that accompanies a migraine. Give me your finest drugs, sir! Two pills for R$26. I politely declined and left, the sun blinding.
